These are work-in-progress screenshots of the aftermath of a collision, six black holes in chart mode, and the first screenshot of our procedural galaxy system (a spiral galaxy with 1, 2, and 3 arms).
Universe Sandbox 3 is a major update due out in 2013 for both Windows and Mac. This is a full rewrite of Universe Sandbox in a new 3D engine.
These screenshots largely represent the amazing work of Georg and Eric. Thanks also to Chris and Thomas for making these visuals be manipulable and move in amazing ways.

looks nice, especially the collision screenshot
-
ok is the collision for reel now or is it another generation setting
-
those galaxies

Looks plenty real to me. Looks pretty cool as well.
Are those chunks of rock in the background oncoming asteroids or are they chunks of rock that got ejected from the big crater?
-
wow :o
-
This is amazing. Good job team!
What are those bright dots near the bottom-left region on the planet?
-
God yes! I can't wait for ubox 3!
-
the Beta is almost here I can just smell it. >:D
-
100% Beautiful, and that's all if have to say.
-
Geez, Every time there is a showcase of the features they pile on more amazing on top of already amazing work.
-
:D Hurry up with that beta for UBox3. We need something to cool our brains down before they meltdown and go nuclear on us, and trust me that is a VERY bad thing for us. Who else agrees with me on this one? :D
-
Just as much as I want to get my hands on this already, I also want to wait. Just wait JayPix.

Okay, I'll wait. For now.

Beta comes out at the end of 2012 or somewhere in Dec.

Yes.

Yes this is real, not reel.
This is a screenshot from the aftermath of a simulated collision.
-

Yes.
Which one or are you not telling, or is it both? Lol. Either answer would be cool anyways.
-
Holykol this is very cute since it is not a generation setting.
-
Sorry... doing a bad job of answering questions before fully reading them.
In that screenshot they are ejected matter from the collision.
Cool, I can just imagine what a planet vs planet scale collision would look like. :D
-
Rainbow Screen of Corruption as it will crash your toaster of course :P.

Your nose tricked you big time.
OT: US3 looks amazing. I want to see some stellar evolution gifs in the next set of screenshots, the camera cut off in the video demonstration (http://universesandbox.com/forum/index.php/topic,7572.0.html) :(
-
Here's the stellar evolution demonstration that you missed during the Unite presentation:

That was brilliant! The suns look so detailed up close now. Thanks for linking the video. I never knew about this beforehand.
I can't wait to do this with our own Sun. Seeing the fate of the Solar System.
-
I can see the project is going wonderfully and amazingly! It's awesome by far.
-
:)
-
Wow!!!!! ::) I like it is pretty amazing but how many things in Universe Sandbox 3 were changed???? ;)
-
FINALY! :o
-
Ok, so, I have a question. Well we have to purchase the new version if we already have UBox2? Not that it would be a bad thing, just need to know if I have to set some money aside.
-
Yes you do. In fact, there's a thread Dan made about that.
-
Some good looking screenshots. I can't wait for the release.
-
Will there be random cloud formations for gas giants and planets with atmospheres? Will there be a natural disaster system for with solid surfaces like volcanoes and supervolcanoes, earthquakes, thunderstorms, blizzards, hurricanes, etc ??? :) :D ;D.
-
Dan has already stated that he's working on procedural planet detail, and I remember him saying that he is working on procedural cloud formation for planets like Earth (I could be wrong, so don't take my word.) But I'm not sure if he is working on natural disasters. He might add effects, like thunder and whatnot, but I don't think he is going to add simulated effects like volcanoes and earthquakes. Awesome ideas, but this is Universe Sandbox, not Climate Sandbox.
-
It would be cool though to see moons that experience tidal stretching like Io for example. They don't necessarily have to have erupting volcanoes, just look volcanically superactive.
For the clouds though, I wouldn't mind if there were procedural cyclones, but as tuto said, we aren't simulating weather. I don't even expect that we will be able to land and see the detail as in Space Engine.
Also, Dan, speaking of cyclones, tidally locked planets should have a hyper cane on their sunward side.
-
But then again, if Dan did add simulated weather, that would be awesome.
-
Thunderstorms, cyclones, lighting seen from space will and volcanic like effects also seen from space at night will be cool.
-
We Would Probably Not Have Any Weather In UBOX 3.
-
Hey Dan, its been some time, but I've been watching.
First thing: You never cease to amaze me, same as with UBOX2 back then. Really great job.
Second: When planets collide, Do you have a feature for that too?
Third: Is the simulated gravity improved?
Last: I see you made my wish come true, 4 years ago I was so looking forward to realistic impacts, and now its happening.
Again, you are a great man, Dan Dixon.

Oh yeah, I'm definetly sure that they have a feature for colliding planets, they just don't want to show it yet. Either because they're still fine tuning it or they want to surprise us or something.
For simulated gravity improved, I'd assume so.
-
Wow Dan. This is looking great. I've had Universe Sandbox for a long time. This update is going to be amazing. I can't wait for the release.
Keep up the great work!
-
Looks amazing I just bought it on steam yesterday, can't wait for the update. Although I am a little bummed about having to pay for the update, but no worries it's totally worth it

cmon mang it's half way through January and still no updates on ubox 3

C'mon man they're making the most awesome of the awesome programs.
Give'em time, they're makin' a very good job.
-
Longer it takes=More epic Ubox 3 will be.
it's called delay gratification i think.

I know and appreciate this, but going into the game and pressing print screen a few times doesn't exactly distract from development time.

I think they'd rather take quality shots than a buch of random screenshots, plus they're probably busy doing whatever needs to be done before they send out the beta.

Considering how little we have anything would be a quality shot imo. But I hope you're right, the ubox 3 beta is easily one of the things I have most been excited for in a long time.

inb4 the black of space and nothing else

I have a question.
Will you be able to add effects on planets? (Like city lights, some animation like active volcanoes and whatnot, etc.)

That be very cool if Dan did. I am hoping he will too.

probably not in the initial releases of universe sandbox 3.
-
Good effect of planetary impact

The universe sandbox when will the Chinese version or other languages????

Oh my god I am so excited!
-
What are those bright dots near the bottom-left region on the planet?
They are city lights and street lights, you can't see car headlights.
-
I'm just curious, does anyone know when the approximate release is? I assume sometime in 2014, I just was wondering if it was more early 2014, or if there is still a lot of work to do so it would be later 2014? Either way, I'm patient :)
Dan, you and the team are doing a fantastic job!
