Forum Problem/suspicious of spam topics. Suggestions?
« on: April 15, 2013, 02:54:03 AM »
I've noticed there starting to be spam bots on here that post threads, Is there a way to block them or put up security. There needs to be more forum moderators perhaps. Has anyone got any suggestions one how to secure the forums.

It's not that bad....yet, but it will probably get worse if not checked. I don't want to name names, but the topic may have something to do with shoes, and is not in the correct category.

Oh, you can name them xD
They appear like every week (the shoespambots)
But yeah, block them would be a good thing

They tend to come in waves for a while and then stop for a while.

Dan and Bla do a pretty good job of cleaning them up, so just report the spambot threads. Not sure how to block them or something though.

No. Don't do that. Add a question like "What is this site called?" or "Is the sun a cereal box?". Questions are MUCH better at preventing spam and easier to use than captchas.

Don't make the questions too difficult though like pizza hut did if you forgot your password. :D They had a question like this once:

How can a photon of light be in 2 places at once?

Now i know it has something to do with quantum mechanics/physics, but I just wanted some freaking pizza, not spend 30mins trying to find an answer that will fit in the word limit, LOL.

But yea, a simple yes/no questions should work. I dislike capchas too, sometimes there just to hard to read.

They're starting to become more rampant.
