i believe there is no basin in which this happens anymore (where you go from one to another and the storm gets a new name/two names) although that might need to be checked for AUS->SWIO (but i thought they got rid of that last year) or NIO->WPAC (though this is unlikely, and even less likely it would ever happen)

i should make a graph with like amounts of hurricane appearing and the time and then have a line saying "at this point atomic can not post faster than there are hurricanes appearing" and the trend will cross at like 2050 or something
inspiration: xkcd "sufficient"

ok atomic you should put this in the OP:

AUS: Australia/Fiji (Southwest Pacific Ocean)
WPAC: Western Pacific
CPAC: Central Pacific
EPAC: Eastern Pacific
SWIO: Southwest Indian Ocean
ATL: Atlantic Ocean
NIO: North Indian Ocean

the storms in EPAC never really hit land because the california current kills them if they get too close to north america and the wind further south pushes them away from land

do they scan the clouds and then paste it on an "template" with all the borders?

the borders are pasted on, yes, so sometimes it's a pixel or three off but generally with NRL that doesn't happen for the basic imagery, sometimes with the microwave passes i think they can be off especially with the distortion sometimes
