[11:42.17] <+sagua> vh actually the 7km per pixel old map was actually per pixel^0
[11:42.37] <+sagua> because the 7km was across one of the lines on the outside of the pixel
[11:42.58] <vh> sorry what, you just confused me more than wikipedia's more technical articles
[11:43.08] <+sagua> kol
[11:43.17] <+sagua> pixel^0 = 1 dimensional pixel
[11:43.25] <+sagua> aka line
[11:43.28] <vh> .....
[11:43.29] <vh> no
[11:43.32] <vh> oh
[11:43.33] <vh> wait
[11:43.33] <vh> yes.
[11:43.34] <vh> ....
[11:43.38] * vh throws poo at sagua
[11:43.46] <+sagua> you're late
[11:43.50] <vh> NO
[11:43.56] <vh> PIXEL^0 IS POINT
[11:43.58] <+sagua> time to make a twice as detailed elevation for himalia
[11:44.00] <+sagua> no
[11:44.01] <vh> because pixel = length^2
[11:44.09] <vh> so then (length^2)^0
[11:44.14] <+sagua> pixel^1 = pixel = length^2
[11:44.14] <vh> =length^(2*0)
[11:44.18] <vh> =length^0
[11:44.20] <vh> =point
[11:44.26] <+sagua> wtf
[11:44.33] * vh throws monkey poo

ok, i was thinking we could make a secondary large-ass map that is the scale of 7/3km (about 2.3km) per pixel.
here is darvincia's portion of that mapp, if we ever go ahead wif it.

this is the official community map.

also, quick tutorial on how to downsize your high-res maps onto the community one:

1. your country map should be just a shape with no internal borders
2. magic-wand select
3. paste onto community map (in a new layer)
4. resize and reposition as necessary
5. deselect/whatever
6. magic wand to click it with tolerance 0
7. shrink border slightly to match it up with the border of your country if necessary
8. invert selection
9. delete everything
10. invert selection
11. delete everything
12. repaint with white with paintbucket
13. expand selection 2 pixels
14. paint the edge of the selection black with paintbucket to create the border
15. modify/remove any border section that connects to the main landmass if necessary.

yes, but we never agreed on red oceanic borders, and you also said you were going to be in another solar system. also no text on the map except nationnames (we can hold a poll on that if you want)

The text is temporary, as so are the ocean borders. Once it sticks clear that I don't want nobody placing a military base within my sphere defense system, then someone can remove it.

Also davince convinced me to come back.

And yes, please hold a poll about the text.

i mean text as in the blurb you have there. nation names text is fine. still want to hold a poll [y/n]

also america didn't tell the earth to make sure the bering strait was created, so i don't think you can tell people to not place stuff in your deformed circle. you'll just have to hope no one decides to enter if and if someone does we can have a lengthy debate until there is consensus.

also bump for the latest map

[06:27.33] <vh> 1 pixel-side
[06:27.34] <vh> is 10 km
[06:27.37] <+FiahOwl> 1 pixels de?
[06:27.39] <+FiahOwl> oh
[06:27.45] <+FiahOwl> so 10km pixels length
[06:27.51] <+FiahOwl> so 100km per square pixel #no, that would mean that a pixel^2=100km which means that each pixel's side length is about 3.16 (km^0.25)
[06:29.14] <vh> no
[06:29.19] * FiktylPegasus (~fp@unaffiliated/atomic7732) Quit (Quit: Colloquy for iPhone - http://colloquy.mobi)
[06:29.26] <vh> 100 (km)^2 per square pixel #i meant 100(km)^2 per pixel
[06:31.17] <+FiahOwl> So if my nation had 400 pixels
[06:31.28] <+FiahOwl> it's area is 160,000km square?
[06:31.30] <+FiahOwl> anyways dinner

no.

400 pixels=400 pixels * 100(km)^2 / pixel = 40,000 (km)^2
forty thousand square kilometers.

Oh, okay thanks kip.

And if everybody starts protesting about my red line, I'm sure we could work something out.

and so basically

<pixel number>*100^2/100 = Area in square km

EDIT: That can't be right, it means Aeri is the size of four.5 russias?
EDIT 2: wait nvm fixed, I was measuring both Kallisto and Aeri

i don't know whats the business with *100^2/100.

just read this:

pixel-side length = 10km
pixel = 10 square km
pixel^2 = no such thing.

I suggest that the temporary time has ended and that if we want something, we decide it by consensus or voting.

Can't even find the thread we used to discuss those things...

why do we have to involve everyone if it only affects two people.

I removed the red lines and the text, shouldn't we exactly involve everyone before we decide whether making such lines should be ok and what size they should be etc.?

What we put on the map affects everyone, it's our collective map, so we should agree when we make changes. Just like we should agree on the size of borders, we should agree before we put the other things on.

Personally I'd be for nation names ofc. Not sure whether we should set rules on the fonts, we could make a poll on that. Ocean borders I'm not sure about either, depends on style. I'd be against writing a description of your nation on the map.

curved water borders make no logical sense

I think:
- Nation names: font chosen by user for their nations
- No ocean borders (the only ocean borders that should be set should be for tropical cyclone forecasting! and for the eastern hemisphere, the Nausikkak Meteorological Collaboration has that covered.)
- No descriptions

Also is kip not like... in the way... ? That's where Nausikkak was, was it not?

yes. Let's extermikate the evil kiplands.

we. are. red.

I mean ready.

Nation names, custom fonts is ok, but what about font size regulations? Based on the area of a nation, or have the same size for all nations maybe? A max area for names to fill?

It should not go outside the nation's borders.
