How about nebulas? It would be cool if there was one...  8)

Some youtube videos have some nebula simulators.

I think simulating nebulae is really processor intensive, and might not be able to be done in real time unless you have a really powerful computer. If there is a way though it be really neat!

-monmofori: It would have been better to edit your post than to post again. But I might check out youtube to look for those videos

You could just make a low-particle nebula. At least it's better than no nebula. Like with galaxies, you may choose to increase the particles in nebulae.

however i think we have to distinguish between at least 2 kind of nebulae. The "natural" ones, that formes when space gases collapse (like in the young universe), and the nebulae formed by supernovae.

But there are also nebulae not formed by supernovae. Perhaps "natural" nebulae and star-formed nebulae. :)

Yeah, I think you're right. I'm not so expert on nebulae...

I meant it's hard to simulate a nebula in which each particle has mass. Doing something like what USand does with galaxies wouldn't be so hard. It would definitely be cool to see the Eagle Nebula (my favorite) in USand.

That looks awesome.

The big difference between Infinity and Universe Sandbox is that Infinity is just displaying a constant scene and Universe Sandbox is simulating a scene over a selectable range of of time steps.

I've been thinking about how to better simulate galaxies so that it's simulating a distributed mass instead of at a single point, but this won't be in the next version. Simulating nebulas could come after that.

I'd love to add nebulas... It's all about figuring out how a way to simulate them in a real-time sudo-realistic way.

Ahh, dan, editted my first posts.  :P

But your welcome for the idea. I recommed it could take days for nebulaes.

Yeah, that's the why in Infinity we can have a huge galaxy of billions of stars in realtime, but not mutating. I think that the stars will slowly orbit the centre of the galaxy, but in Infinity you'll never see any impacts or collisions between asteroids. It's the big defect of that game. That nebula in the video will never collapse, but will maintain that shape forever  :P

P.s. The Spell Check function is so usefull!
