Strange Forces - What?
« on: July 17, 2009, 02:55:25 PM »
This happend when I was colliding "dwarf galaxies" like Andreas and hbmp88 made. They did this. Strange forces wasn't on, or was it? i pressed "j" and it said "Strange Forces On" does that mean it was off and turned on? Or does that mean it was on? It "bounced" then stoped and went backwards (it hasn't gone very far backwards yet) following the trail it took, this makes me mad because this sim was taking long as it is!

Btw, the other galaxy is below the picture.

No, i don't mean it like that. I have no clue what caused it to do that.

The text messages tell you what the result of the button press is, so this means that it was turned on.

All of the various states like this will have a visible indicator in the next version (which should eliminate this unnecessary confusion).

I'm sorry I can be of more help; it's unclear to me what's going on in the image.

a galaxy of stars bounce off of something unknown. and no it wasn't on because i waited till the "Strange Forces Off" went away, pressed j again, and it said "strange Forces on". But I haven't had the problem again though!.

1. Open system "Moon Cluster" (or whatever)
2. hit j
3. Wait a while

I just want to know the math of them. For example the Newtonian forces works using the formula F=G*(m1*m2)/d^2

Wow. I did like Neutron said and the cluster of moon broke apart by it self then did a cluster again.

Strange forces was a 30 minute experiment that I hooked up to the 'J' key and then never unhooked. Like a handful of features only accessible on the keyboard it's an experimental feature.

Here's the current (and rather arbitrary) math behind it:

If the distance between the two compared bodies is less than the sum of their radi * 6 then the force between them is multiplied by .1 and made negative (which is why they fly apart when they get too close). F=(-0.1)*G*(m1*m2)/d^2

While I don't expect to provide much control of this in the next version, later versions of Universe Sandbox may allow advanced control over the gravity formula itself.
