Wierd problem with rings...
« on: June 11, 2009, 08:24:53 PM »
After running out of trial-time and registering with my order number and such, i started getting this wierd bug whenever i try to create rings..
Its like the rings explode away from whatever i created them on, so fast that if i want to view it happen i gotta lower the speed to like 1 hour per second, then i can see them just exploding outward into infinity, much like the light pulse effect..

Any idea on what causes it, and how i can fix it? To my memory, everything regarding rings worked great before the trial time was up  ??? ???

Sometimes when you have a high time step errors like that will occur. Try creating it at a smaller time step and see if it works out.

Nope doesnt help, however it seems to only happen when i open pre-existing systems. Its fine when i create a new one =)

it would be helpful if you post some screenshots of the problem and remember that this kind of topic (with bugs or just with simple questions) should be put in the Support category. ;)

I highly doubt that it has anything do with the trial running out as the code that handles the trail timer and the simulation are completely separate. The simulations run exactly the same trial or not. The only difference is that once your trial runs out a number of the controls for interactive features get shut off.

What are the steps that you're performing? What simulation doesn't work?

Open "Saturn and its moons"
Right click on Saturn and select "Rings"

What happens?

In the Fomalhaut system/simulation:
Try turning the time step down to something under 10 minutes and try it again.

The 'rings' (the asteroid belt) that this system starts with aren't creatable without editing XML files. Currently all rings created by the user are so much closer to their parent bodies that the time step needs to be turn way down in order to have the accuracy necessary to simulate their orbit.

Have a great weekend.
