SimCity sort of works on my computer now... Even though the graphics are glitchy and it has crashed once. I might build something...

Try changing graphics from either software or hardware rendering to vice versa.

Naxda so far... It features a strong public sector with water access for everyone, free healthcare, police, fire department and education covering most of the city, buses and three passenger and freight stations (one in the city, two at industry areas). The city station also has a bus stop and a state owned parking lot.
And yes, the budget is fine! :P

As I hate dirty industry, I made the water so I could get manufactoring. I increased the taxes on dirty industry to scare them away, and got some manufacturing, but no matter how low I set the taxes they wouldn't build anything, and there weren't jobs enough for everyone. So I can't make a clean environment yet, and the water is also somewhat polluted near the industry. :/

I use a principle from someone's city journal...
Lemme see if I can find it.

EDIT:

Found the principle, here it is.

I know it's okay that I hotlinked those because he uses his site to hotlink all over teh place.

My budgets are always fine because I rarely spend much or have many services in a small town where services would bog down the cash and growth.

I don't even have industry. I don't care about it.

How do you get work for your citizens if you don't have industry? ???

And nice guide Darvince.
I really hate the big §§§ houses. They're so ugly, convert small plots into huge ones and never seem to turn into tall buildings.

Darvince, do you just find your mods on the official site? Which ones do you use?

And thanks for the hardware/software render help, it works perfectly now with software render.

Isn't the key to make a bunch of residential so that you don't have to make all the services suffer with less funding?

Yes, but then you also have to cover those under your services, at least that's my way of playing it. I try to give the citizens as many services as possible and increase taxes until I can fund them. It's hard, especially in the start, but also an exciting way of playing I think.

Simtropolis

It's by far not the official file exchange, but it lets you put a description of the file, and it lists dependencies so I don't have to experiment to make the mod work by installing one hundred thousand others mods and testing each one.

Also I use one mod that is considered an essential by the forumers of there, and several others.
One cosmetic mod that I would recommend is a simple mod, and doesn't bog down your CPUs or anything like that, since all it changes is street-ends.

Newtork Add-on Mod

Street Dead-ends Mod

What? You need NAM to make 45 degree roads? I don't need it. I wonder why you need it.

The fudge? That's weird that you can in Vanilla SC4.

Ohwai- Maybe your cheats included NAM.

Well you never check the Plugins folder so it's obvious that the cheats have NAM with them.

When you delete them do they cost §1 to delete or §2?

Also the I'm atomic! text was better IMO.

In Doene, which is the central tile, when I go into it, the demand for everything is really high. There's 7 of 8 possible cities surrounding it, so I think that might be why.

The overpasses don't work! :( Do they work in your game, Darvince?

Hmm. I think this might be because I selected English as the language, and then it just assumed that I wanted left hand drive as well. >:(

Edit: It works now, the left hand driving caused the bug. If anyone else gets/has this problem, try this guide: Link
If you don't want to register to read it, I can copy the message in a PM.

Edit 2: I can't figure out how to make roundabouts, can anyone explain that? If I place four curved roads they won't interact with any other roads.

Edit 3: Aha, you just drag a one way road into a 3x3 square, then the NAM converts it into a roundabout automatically. And I read some 2x2 roundabouts should be included with NAM...

Any suggestions about what should be built in the fully terraformed Naxda region? :)

The NAM comes with North American-esque capacities for streets, roads etc. so I barely have any roads in my cities because of it. :P

Naxda has grown, the image of the city is a little bit old, and the region slightly older. The region (and city) has about 17.000 inhabitants now.

Bump. I found something you can't resist if you play SimCity 4.
A regional terraforming program!
It's very well made, has all the tools, 3D view of the region. It also lets you create a region of any size. Standard regions are 16 times 16 small cities. However, it only makes small cities in the regions.
It's better to edit a config.bmp, so you can make cities the size you want them to be (in them, red are small, green medium and blue large cities, and the resolution (standard 16x16 pixels) determines the size of the region). Remember to make them correctly though!
I made a 32x32 region, if you want it, you can download the config.bmp below. Make an empty region and replace the config.bmp generated in the region folder, then it'll be about four times larger and have different city sizes.

Other nice mods:
Stop the evil mansions
