Tuto has said he doesn't actually want to host New Year so Newtim has been removed from the voting options.

Everyone who voted for Newtim may submit a new vote in the voting book - you don't need to edit your previous vote for option 3, it will not be counted.

The voting deadline will be extended until the UTC midnight before October 31.

I apologize for the faulty submission; I should've been more appropriate.
This won't happen again, I just took a gamble to do this since I thought I'd have a job by now and therefore be saving up money for a brand new computer, hence being able to actually go on Blacraft and host the event. Nothing more.

i got too impatient to wait for the month to end so here we are -- blacraft activity for this month in $$$

blue is actual server time, red is data transfer, and other colors are associated overhead. the turqoise chunk which makes up most of the overhead is the technology that gives the server a fixed ip

october 9th was great. looks like someone went exploring on the 19th. (hence the large amounts of data transmitted)

total server uptime wast 154.5 hours. no activity on 4 days of the month

what causes lots of data transfer? loading chunks?

also is the turquoise just paying for the static ip address or is it actually some thing that actually has to run

i don't know for sure, but yes, i suspect chunk loading.

the way the elastic ip is billed is a bit funny. first, there's a small fixed cost for everytime you "remap" the ip to a different ip, but that only kicks in after the first 100 remaps of a month, which we didn't exceed (a remap happens every time we boot the server).

second, we're billed half a cent for every hour the elastic ip *isn't* in use. with the reasoning being if it's in use, you're already paying for it.

I question the theory about data transmitting being chunks because I did a 30k block end exploration on the 12th and it barely registers. Presumably, end island has less data to be transmitted but chunks don't totally work that way, and 30k of end islands should still be similar if not more than 12k walk through the overworld.

welp. i don't know what else could consume data. if you stood next to a mob factory while it did it's redstone thing, would stuff be transmitted every time the water flows? or no? is all that redstone/block stuff done client side?

i bet chunks are compressed before sending tho, and since end chunks are like 95% air, 4.9% endstone, and 0.1% other stuff, i suspect the compression would be pretty effective. i mean the overworld can still be compressed, but i wouldn't be surprised if the compression ratio in the end was 10 times higher.

total data consumption for the month was a shade under 30GB

introducing the nether flight triangle: spawntown, aahrus (really end portal), konisshi. these are three elytra launch/landing points designed to get you from point a to point b as fast as possible.

konisshi to spawntown: 2 fireworks
spawntown to aahrus: 1 firework (untested)
aahrus to spawntown: 1 firework (untested)

the spawntown landing is probably the trickiest, but still not that hard to  get the hang of

distance from actual landing point to target portal:
aahrus landing to end portal: like 2 blocks
konisshi landing to main konisshi portal: ~30 blocks ice road
spawntown landing to spawn portal: ~30 blocks ice road
