WIth 16 colored blank flags, 24 patterns (with 16 colors for each one), and a max of 6 patterns on a banner, that makes over 51,000 trillion unique combinations.

They're also reuseable and you can wash off the last layer with a cauldron of water.

I think I'd prefer Mojang to run it but in the end... we really don't know what's going to happen so I wouldn't start making apocalyptic prophecies. Microsoft did say they wanted to continue to nurture it... Mojang also snatched a big pile of profit from Minecraft and didn't spend it all on development or reducing prices after all... And Microsoft has made games like Age of Empires after all... It doesn't have to mean the doom of Minecraft.
I'll wait and see before judging.

Not that I like Microsoft at all.

Also AoE was made before many of the unsavory modern videogame making practices arose.

They're Mojang's attempt at making official servers people can purchase to host multiplayer worlds. Like Multiplay, Perfection servers and all those that people use to host persistent multiplayer worlds.

The whole "Microsoft will ruin Minecraft" idea has no basis in reality. contrary to popular belief, Microsoft is not Hitler, and don't enjoy stepping on your favourite games just for shits and giggles. They realize that if they fuck up Minecraft in a way a majority of players don't like, they will legitimately ruin their companies image, and it would be a PR nightmare. Now, I'm not an expert at running a huge company like Microsoft, but I have a good feeling this is what they're going to do. They'll basically end up throwing a shitload of money at Mojang, and telling them to keep doing what they're doing, or potentially Dev another game.
