Alpha19 bugs on Mac OS X

I just tested the new version and all stars have defective textures.

Another problem is that the Dock doesn't disappear automatically. The last version did this.

I'm using an OSx86 system with OS X 10.9.5, Core i7 3770K, 32 GB RAM and Radeon HD6870 graphics card with 1 GB VMEM.

Sorry for the issue. We are aware of the problems with star appearance on Macs and we're looking into it. It's a new issue and doesn't seem to affect all Macs (I don't see it on mine), but hopefully we can track it down for a future issue.

I also don't see this issue with the dock (I am running a later version of macOS, I wonder if that's related).  I'm assuming you are running Universe Sandbox ² in fullscreen? Have you tried toggling fullscreen and windowed? You can toggle this using the button in the top-right corner or in Home > Settings > Graphics.

Yes, I use it in fullscreen, but the texture problem also appears in window mode. The Dock problem also doesn't exist everytime. Try starting in window mode and then switch in the program to fullscreen mode. I didn't get the game from Steam, I bought it on teachergaming.com. So I can't test the next Alpha except I could get a direct download link.

As mentioned, I'm using an OSx86 system based on PC hardware, no real Mac. But this shouldn't be a problem because the compatibility is very high, and if Apple screws up newer Macs like like last MacBook Pro, OSx86 systems will spread more. I'm staying with 10.9.5 because after 10.10 the system was noticeable slower. I haven't tested it, but it would be amazing if Universe Sandbox would be compatible to Mac OS X 10.6. It was the fastest OS X version ever, because it doesn't have unneccessary iOS stuff integrated. Using a Radeon HD6870, extremely fast OpenGL values are possible. And there is still enough software which works on Snow Leopard.

What Mac model do you have, especcially what graphics card?

Hm, I tried starting in windowed and then switching to fullscreen several times and never had an issue with the dock. Hard to say what's happening there. Unfortunately we can't offer a direct link for the experimental version.

As for older versions of OS X: the game engine we use (Unity3D) currently requires 10.8+. As we continue to upgrade to newer versions of the engine in the future, it's likely the requirements will go up as well.

We've seen reports of the star texture issue on a range of hardware, including testing on iOS devices (for the mobile version we are developing). But I don't see it on my 2012 MBP which has integrated HD4000 graphics, nor on my newer iMac with an R9 M390.

So, I tried on the same computer macOS Sierra 10.12.1 (was too lazy to update because I don't use it) and I don't have the Dock problem, but the textures are messed up, too. Then I tried it on another computer, with a Zotac Mini-ITX board with GeForce 9300 chipset, but with a Sapphire Radeon HD6870. But this one has four monitor outputs, my other one has five. There's also no Dock problem in 10.9.5, but the textures are messed up. It would be useful to have more OSx86 users here...

I found a really weird bug, I presume there are only a few people who will have this. I'm using Exposé to get an overview over my windows, and I can access it by moving the mouse in the lower left or lower right edge. My main monitor has 4:3 format, my secondary 16:9. Now I'm doing this: I'm starting Universe Sandbox 2 in 1600x1200 (4:3), then go with Exposé to the System Preferences and set my main monitor to 1920x1080 (16:9 Full-HD). After switching back, Universe Sandbox looks like this:

The 120 pixels at the bottom are cut off, and on the right are 320 pixels trash.

Universe Sandbox also has problems with the HiDPI modes. My monitors were configured in the following way: Main Monitor 800x600 HiDPI, right monitor 1920x1080.

The older version I have does work, but the screen is too small.

Alpha19 is really weird: My main monitor remains grey with Dock, the second monitor has a tiny 800x600 image:

As you can see, this is really in the video memory, otherwise I wouldn't be able to snapshot it with the inbuilt system function, accesseable with command+shift+3.

Both are good demonstrations why there should be a better dual-monitor support. Universe Sandbox should detect the native resolution of the monitor, not the screenmode selected by the user for the operating system. Setting a screenmode should be made from inside the program.
