Help Opening Simulations
« on: June 01, 2016, 09:30:33 AM »
Hi, I just purchased the game, so hopefully I'm not being extra dumb. I did a simple google search, but couldn't resolve my issue.

I created and saved a simulation, which is a .ubox file in the simulations folder, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to open it again. When I click on the folder in finder (I'm on a mac), it says there is no application to open it with. In Universe Sandbox itself, I can go to the folder 'My Sims', but when I click 'Open Simulation Folder' and click a .ubox file, I get the error that there is no application set to open this type of document.

Any advice?

These files are meant to only be opened within Universe Sandbox ² itself, not from Finder.

Along with the "Open Simulation Folder" in the My Sims tab there should be a tile for your saved sim. Do you see your sim there?

Thanks for the response.

It turns out the issue comes when you rename files, at least on the two computers I tried:

When you rename a file, it appears in the Simulations folder, but not in Universe Sandbox itself when you go to Open>MySims

Alternatively, if you leave it with its default name, it will appear within Universe Sandbox, allowing it to be opened.

I'm curious as to why changing the name when saving creates this issue.

Are you renaming the files via Finder? The files aren't meant to be altered outside of Universe Sandbox ², so that could cause an issue with the way we handle cataloging the files within the game.

We should have better handling for that, though, and of course there should be an option in-game for renaming. Saving and loading needs more work still.  :)

...or do you mean when simply typing in another name when it asks you to name the sim?
