The Soleani National Broadcasting Network has posed a question to the national broadcasters of other Universalis nations. It is this:
Are they interested in (potentially) using a new voting system for Videovision?
Other users are welcome to present possible proposals or critiques but the Soleani idea follows:
Sometimes, you may not like 10 videos in Videovision. Sometimes it will be less, other times it could be more. And even so, one's liking of a video might not fit the traditional 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 scale. Who is to say that the 5th best video is 6/15th's as good as the best video? We propose a new voting system in which national juries are more free to rank the participating videos. There are just a few problems. With a 1-10 rating system, or the likes, where every entrant is voted on, allows a nation to completely nullify their own votes by rating everything the same, and some nations might have less or more impact in the full results. With an fixed amount of points, freely allotted, one may give a single song 66 points (the sum of the current voting scale), or all the songs a nearly equal amount of points. Thus, we have derived a way to allow freely assigning points that fit the national taste better, while also still keeping familiar to the old system and preventing intentional (or unintentional) skewing of the results.
In this concept, 66 points will be allotted to the entrants with the following constraints:
- Allot all 66 points
- The highest ranked entry cannot receive more than 15 points
- The second highest ranked entry cannot receive more than 12 points
- The third highest and beyond entries cannot receive more than 10 points
- No more than 12 entries can receive points
Some valid example voting allotments:
- 15, 12, 10, 10, 10, 9 (most dense, minimum 6 entries voted for)
- 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 (traditional Univision voting style)
- 12, 10, 8, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 (a potential take on adding 8 points to the Eurovision voting scale, normally summing to 58)
- 6, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5 (least dense, maximum 12 entries voted for)
Discuss this idea, whether you'd like it to be adopted this Videovision in March or April, or other possible solutions to voting systems.
We could raise or lower the allotted amount of points, although 66 would keep the same general point sum across different contests for winners and such.
