Alpha 16 Release Preview | August 20, 2015
« on: August 21, 2015, 06:27:10 AM »
If you already own Universe Sandbox ˛, just run Steam to update to the latest version.

Or you can buy Universe Sandbox ˛ here:
http://universesandbox.com/buy/

What's new?
In Alpha 16 we’ve re-enabled and improved saving and loading and completely rewrote the rendering backend to implement logarithmic z-buffering, which addresses graphical issues and paves the way for some big visual changes. We also made further improvements to the interface and fixed a bunch of bugs and stability issues.

Complete List of Updates

Let us know what you think! And please report any problems either with the in game feedback tool or by starting a new thread...

Make sure you've got the very latest update. Close and reopen Steam to be sure.

Yes. It's Alpha 15.9.

We'll be releasing Alpha 16 (this version with a few more fixes) in the next few days.

-So I was checking out the Creating Pulsar tutorial. Guys, Sirius B is not a neutron star. Get that fixed please. (EDIT: bolded for emphasis)

-By the way, why can't I do the same with stars like PSR xxxxxxx? Why does the magnetic thing only work with Sirius B?

-There are way too many fragments coming out of collisions by default I guess

-Performance is significantly slower. I now average 9 fps in the performance test. It used to be 11 in all the log z betas. The startup is laggy, and the solar system sim doesn't run smoothly. The planets seem to move step-by-step, you know? The camera view flows smoothly though for some reason.

-The left click infobox is now on the right side of the screen? Sorry but that's not good at all. I know it used to obstruct the view, but you could have made it smaller and more transparent maybe... I don't know. It's not nice the way it is.

-I've already reported a bug by the way. That's it, I'll play and test more later

Will have a look at this later.

Also side note on the steam page for US˛ it lists the release date as summer 2015. Just thought id let you know incase you don't get to release the early access on time since summer is nearly gone.

So I see you fixed that mistake in which you called Sirius B a neutron star. Nice. The thing is that as far as I know white dwarfs can't be pulsars. Why not use some PSR star as the focused object of the tutorial? It has to be a neutron star.

By the way, I think it is time for some more specific labeling. "Star" is now too vague.

And thanks for getting rid of the blue giant supernova halo of light.

This game isn't ready for steam early access. Way too many bugs, most of which are so absurd I don't even know how to report

Turns out... white dwarfs can be pulsars:
http://www.nasa.gov/centers/goddard/news/topstory/2007/whitedwarf_pulsar.html

And I hope you're wrong about it not being ready for Early Access since that's what we're getting ready to do very soon. :)

While I agree there are still many issues to resolve, I think that overall it's in pretty good shape... and based on the exit survey we're getting reports of high user satisfaction.

Sure. Perhaps I'm just a perfectionist. I'm really glad you've released on steam early access! It's been years of development. I'm happy to have been part of this all.

Edit: So white dwarfs can be pulsars too. Well, I learned something new today

Pulsaric White Dwarfs are incredibly rare. It must have a rotation period at least 60 seconds*. And Most White Dwarfs didn't spin that quickly
