completed the major moons of vensada

here's a family portrait from Ngaha

they probably need to be axial aligned and stuff cause currently their orbits have no eccentricity or inclination or anything (except for Kise)

i'll do that at a later point in time

i wrote a script to generate irregular moon group/families

and i used it to generate vensada's sugha group

it generates the orbital elements and the radius (most of which aren't on the moon overview sheet) and i haven't added the sugha group to space engine yet

I want that script. I also want the script to generate regular and inner moons if the user wants.

i'm not sure what you guys want to do, i guess maybe hold a vote or something, but i think we should figure out our name voting system because we ran into problems a few times where we didn't really know what to do

i came up with a vote counting algorithm and did some tests on all the non-obvious results here and ended up with 2 results different from what we did in the original voting

most notably, and most easily explainable is the vote on the name for Vensada VI, where in fiah's instant runoff system Oranika was removed from the running for only placing 1st once, via dar, who ranked Busul 2nd (which then was upgraded to 1st, giving Busul the win) as seen here:

but, in my algorithm, we know that we can remove any name which is ranked last by the majority because it can never win under any circumstance, and we find that the name Honanki is ranked last by 3 out of 5 people

so when we remove Honanki we find that Oranika (ranked 2nd by me and fiah) now wins by majority:

this is my proposed algorithm:

the problem though is... is Oranika or Busul the more liked name? Busul was ranked 1st twice and 2nd once, vs Oranika which was ranked 1st only once, but 2nd twice (actually three times but if we only count the places of the eventual "winners")

if you count all their places they both have the same average highest position (2nd), so whatever the case they are really close

should we hold a vote to decide the voting system? propose other new ones if necessary? discuss which system of determining winners makes more sense to you

fiah would have to enumerate his system better before we could vote, because we're both not sure how iUtah should have turned out (it was the only one ranked 1st twice, everything else was ranked 1st once, does that mean it should have won or do winners need a majority? if they need a majority how do you eliminate names from the running?)

hi guys since pavala wrf sims are getting close (but not the official ones) i drafted the potential cyclone basins

because naming cyclones sequences of letters and numbers isn't particularly fun i figured we could draft extremely provisional name lists for the basins, so that when a cyclone forms and its winds reach 34 kts (39 mph) or greater i can refer to it by some sort of pavalan name :)

the basins (and names) are really beyond pavala right now, they aren't official and they can be changed and all the lists and warning centers and stuff can be decided later, i just want a list of names i can draw from for each basin while i'm running test simulations of wrf

here's the map:

i've labeled the basins each with a unique letter, a general name, a two letter identifier (for storm identifiers) and their general longitudinal bounds

what i want you guys to do is pick 2 basins each and draft a name list for them. the criteria is pretty much entirely up to you, they don't really have to mean anything, but i'd like names that generally represent the region on pavala (if we don't know anything about it yet, just make something up). i also don't need that many names, 20ish is probably good for most of them, so if you want to test out a conlang alphabet or something go for it, but i don't really need several lists (unless your lists are really short). they also don't need to be alphabetical.

here's a quick description of each provisional basin and about how many names i'd like:

A - North Uqe (UQ) - i'll probably just use my existing name list but i'm not sure, this one's mine sorry :P
B - Ganuo-Hac (GH) - i expect this to be a fairly major basin, 20 names might be overkill but aim for that
C - Central Rift (CC) - several cyclones formed here in the coarse simulations last year, so they were probably "hypercanes" from absurdly warm water, but development might occur, probably only 5 to 10 names needed
D - North Forbidden Sea (DD) - major basin, 20 names
E - Idiba (ID) - 20 names
F - South Uqe (SQ) - i'm probably going to pick this one too and make about 20 names
G - Edeto (GG) - name this ocean? about 20 names
H - Intertibetia (HH) - does this region have a name? i don't know if cyclones will form here, maybe in that big lake, but i need to cover all my bases, only about 5 to 10 names
I - South Forbidden Sea (II) - major basin, 20 names
J - Ivinis Sea (JJ) - 5 to 10 names

example usage:

If a cyclone formed in basin "A", it would be part of the <year> North Uqe cyclone season, and if it was the first storm of the season its identifier would be UQ01.

example list for basin F (south uqe):

Apeana
Bikol
Dika
Epir
Fula
Gowi
Hiteo
Imoa
Kanets
Lepa
Miena
Nala
Oqi
Pama
Qepok
Raotea
Sunu
Tebua
Uviko
Vetsi
Wela

if you'd like me to update region names and 2 letter identifiers just say so

you can pick from C D E G H I and J

I don't plan to change Dotruga's landmass.
Also, I would like to claim the Idiba storm basin, along with the North Foribidden Ocean.

you know this is just to give me cyclone names if a cyclone forms there in my test simulations, right?

although there is unclaimed land on pavala, fiah can give you an intro maybe
