Mars turning into a gas giant?
« on: August 11, 2014, 08:03:34 AM »
So I'm still figuring out how to terraform...

And when I add more than 3% Carbon dioxide,Mars seems to turn into a gas giant.

Is this a bug or my fault for being too "dumb" ? :D

Nope, this is definitely a bug. What you are seeing is the texture blur effect for rocky to gas giant transitions, which means Mars has turned into a gas giant. Not sure what's going on here, though.

Reproducible on my end. Transition point seems to be at about 2.7%

Well i guess it's because CO2 counts as a gas in the game

Yeah this is a bug, I posted about it a few days ago. I did the same thing with the moon.

The transitions are based on the amount of surface gas, it's not picky if it's Co2 or another gas. It's at a point where the gas amount is so high the planet would be visually opaque. Calling it a gas giant is a bit of a misnomer though, it's more of a Venus style scenario at that point.

The transitions are still pretty rough, and we're working on the classifications of planets still. This isn't really a "bug", but it's definitely something we want to improve the handling of as time goes on.
