Xriqxa's Ideas Thread
« on: June 07, 2014, 07:34:12 AM »
I will from now on be posting my ideas here. Please no hate posting.

Gravity

The effects of gravity actually have a speed. It is the SOL (speed of light). Let's put this into perspective. Imagine you magically erase the sun. Since light takes ~8.5 minutes to get to earth, Earth would continue to orbit the now empty enter of the Solar system for 8.5 minutes before pinging off into deep space at 30 km/sec. Is this simulated in Universe Sandbox 2?

Also this has caused me to believe that light is just disturbances in the fabric of space time.

If even matter can go faster than light in US, why should gravity not be able to?

Gravity in Universe Sandbox seems to have an infinite speed currently, but yes, in reality is propagates at the speed of light. Universe Sandbox (also 2) uses Newtonian calculations, which is why bodies can also go faster than the speed of light. It would be cool if it could use relativistic calculations instead I think - it's neither correct that matter nor gravity can go faster than the speed of light, so ideally that should be true in US as well I think.

City light grouping

Perhaps city lights could be grouped in a way so that if an asteroid hits a small area of the group the whole thing will go out, so it doesn't look like there's a dance club next to a lake of lava?

I have suggested that a few times. The fact that bodies can travel at 1234x the speed of light gives me itches.

However, please don't use relativistic equations for gravity. It is going to make the game even more laggy. Just special relativity is fine

Evolution Metre

As in there can be a metre on how developed the species on a planet is?

Like a metre with labels like single-celled, multi-celled, sealife, terrestrial life, airborne life, Paleolithic (tribes and such), Victorian (primitive cities/kingdoms and societies, like the Medieval times), Modern Society(like tody), and Space Faring.

Also gotta say this:

US2+Space Engine+KSP+An Overhaul of SPORE= Elation similar to that of being in heaven

Maybe when you can open US2 there can be the Big Bang? And also when you close US2 there can be the Big Crunch? There should be a question before you start the game for the first time if you are epileptic because the flash will cause seizures. If you choose yes the flashes will turn off.

That would look cool, the Big Crunch might be a bit misleading though because it appears that dark energy will cause the universe to expand forever in the future, so a Big Crunch probably won't happen. But the Big Bang would be a cool and fitting 'loading screen' for the game.

The effects of gravity actually have a speed.

Probably not going to happen. Makes everything more complicated with seemingly little difference to the average user. And I've read that this can make a simulated system unstable. I'm not to look for it now, but I commented more thoroughly on this idea a few years ago.

As in there can be a metre on how developed the species on a planet is?

Cool idea, but something we probably won't explore until next year at the earliest.

Agreed, not sure about it's practicality though. We'll see...

Not sure about the big crunch closing scene because it'd get repetitive after awhile. The big bang loading screen sounds cool though!

Black Hole Accretion
I don't know if it's been implemented yet, but in the original black holes just fling things out and never absorb them. Stars never got destroyed because of this either. I hope in the new Alpha they make stars give up their stuff to black holes. (even more possible now that the Material System is in place.

It will most likely happen after they finish the fluid physic thing.

that will be awesome to mess around for sure

Awwwwww yeah! 8) imagine this: a superstar which you've created is in too close of a proximity to a formerly unoticable singularity. it slowly destroys the star, drawing the superhot plasma out, incinerating planets, and forming a large disc. No only that, but if you removed the black hole and stopped all velocity, the disk would form back into one huge ball of gas.

No that's fine. It's a good idea, but I think it's already possible now with the material system. All we need now is the energy jets. P.S. The gas wouldn't turn into a star, it would actually fling out in a flower shaped pattern.

MOAR SLIDERS!

We need sliders for stuff like ice, clouds, city lights, and has giant storms.

Ice Slider: I've got this planet with no water but some small ice caps. Would this be possible in US2, or does it need to be implemented.

Cloud Slider: for how many clouds on a planet. Should change with distance to star.

City Slider: For how intense and numerous the lights are. Should increase with time.

Storm Slider: for how many storms on a gas giant. Should change with proximity to star.

Thats a pretty nice idea, although you can noticably get a giant hurricane if you have Oceanic Tidal lock planets.

Binary Goldilocks Zone

Will US2 be able to calculate the habitable zone of stars which are companied by other stars?

Like if there's a close binary system will the Goldilocks zone only simulate for the individual body or will it simulate a Habitable Zone which is affected by other stars?

first, the size didnt work , second , good idea , why not?even that the heat death is the most acceptable of the ways that universe will die, thats would be perfect for a loading screen

Supernova Effects

Perhaps heat can affect life on a planet by killing it? And maybe also life level corresponds with water level?

Also a nearby Supernovae could kill life? It would be a cool feature to have. Also I think the gas distribution from the supernovae explosions should be a little more  random.

I am extremely interested in how the hell you can simulate heat death.

I disagree a lot with there being any sort of exit theme. A Big Bang for the loading screen sounds fine and I wouldn't be against it, but when you're exiting a game you don't really need something big. It'd get repetitive fast IMO, and plus nobody else does it.

Lol yes I decided against it later. But big bang opening theme? YESH PLZ!

Also can we add custom backgrounds in US2?

@Xriqxa About the supernovas.

As far as I can tell, all the videos so far showing "supernovas" have shown our sun. However, our sun will never go supernova. So, my question is this: have we been seeing what amounts to the sun losing most of its layers at the end of it's life? Or have we been seeing supernovas? If it's the latter, that needs to be fixed, as, like I said, our sun will never go supernova. It's just not that type of star, and never will be.

Another question. The people who showed "supernovas" in their vids. Were those actually supernovas? Or has every single person showing it off been wrong? If this is the case, have we even seen what an actual supernova looks like in US2?

My last question is this: Is types of star even implemented yet, and if not, will it be? Again, certain types of stars will never go supernova. Just like certain types will go supernova, but wont be big enough to form a black hole.

Sorry for going off topic, but this has been bothering me ever since one of the first vids of US2 Alpha 7 showed a supernova.
