Welcome to Aahrus! Our beautiful little island is located off the scenic coast of Ethanthova. One of the densest cities on Universalis, it is our pleasure to bring you the first contest!

Our wonderful Crystal Hall is perfectly suited for the first contest. All the acts will find it perfectly comfortable on the stage in a few weeks.

Next year, the contest will be hosted in the winning country, so good luck to all!
Now before we go into the submissions process, let's go over the rules:
SONGS:
- A song can not have been sent in previous editions of the contest (doesn't matter now, does it?).
- Songs must be a maximum of roughly 5 minutes. I'll accept a few seconds over, but not minutes over.
- Joke entries are allowed, but try to keep it somewhat serious. I don't want a 5 minute loop of a 30 second meme. Also try to avoid incredibly vulgar songs.
- Songs must be a Youtube video to be entered.
- There is no limit to where the song can be released from, the language of lyrics, the year it was released. Songs can also be instrumental.
- If there is copyright issues, another version of the song must be found.
COUNTRIES:
- You can only enter one country into the contest, however you can send multiple songs.
- Countries must be on the Official USF map (located here (http://universesandbox.com/forum/index.php/topic,7618.0.html)) to be eligible to participate.
- Every country that enters must send one to three songs, they must also vote.
VOTING:
- You cannot vote for entries you submitted.
- If you wish to vote but not participate, please contact me ahead of time.
- If you are participating, you are required to vote.
- Everyone who votes will need to give me a ranking of their 5 favourite songs. This will be converted into points. 10 points to your favourite, 8 points, 6 points, 3 points and 1 point for your least favourite of the 5.
- The song with the most points wins!
- Votes are required to be sent in either private messaging, on IRC, on Skype, on Steam or by email.
Tie Breaking:
- Entry with the most number of people who gave it points
- If the above does not work, the entry which has gotten the most 10 points
- If the above does not work, continue down to the entry who got the most 1 point given
- If the above does not work, the entry which is sooner in the running order

The oldest songs in the contest thus far are both from early 2006. Mine and vh's entries. Mine was in Eurovision 2006, just because it should be known as all 3 of my songs are Eurovision entries. :P
3 songs have an ex-Soviet feel to them (whether a real accent, a joke accent or an ethnic song).

Since they did not get any points, the tiebreaking rule says that they have all gotten 22nd place. About Ani Lorak:
She was born on 27 September 1978 in Kitsman, Ukraine (Ukrainian SSR). She began her musical career in 1996, when she won a New York based musical competition. After winning "Ukrainian Discovery of the Year" at an Ukrainian song festival in 1997, she went on to write a few singles early in the new millennium. After spending a few years as a restaurant owner with her fiance she returned onto the music scene. In 2008 she was internally selected to represent Ukraine in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008. She is currently one of the most influential women in Ukraine.
About Shady Lady:
Shady Lady was written by Karen Kavaleryan, the same person who wrote 8th place Apricot Stone in this contest, and was composed by Philipp Kirkorov. Once Ani Lorak was selected to represent Ukraine in the Eurovision Song Contest 2008, a national final was held where songs were submitted to be sung by Ani Lorak. After winning the national final by quite a bit, the song and Ani Lorak was sent to Belgrade for the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest. It participated in the second semi-final, winning the show that night and securing a place in the final. It went onto coming 2nd place in the grand final, following Russia's entry. It scored 230 points that night, remaining one of the highest scoring second place finishers in the history of the contest as well as one of the highest scored Ukrainian entries.

Best uptempo song I guess? There weren't many in the field. A lot of slower instrumental songs that fell behind.

I have been incredibly busy these last few weeks, so this didn't really go as I had planned. So here are a few changes I want to implement for the next edition, in December I will have much more time.
Proposals for the next edition:
- An actual synchtube live streaming
- Better graphics and a real scoreboard, with the possibility of Eurovision style voting rather than the way we did it today
- Allowing multiple countries or multiple entries, for people who only have one country
- A Eurovision style participation map
- Somehow make use of flags (in graphics I guess)
- Not taking 2 weeks to go through everything, I'd prefer to do it over a period of 2 weekends
- Jury voting changes
- Regular voting changes as well as a change to the points

I would hope if someone other than you wins, they are allowed some freedom over hosting, maybe not rules (unless they pass them by your broadcasting union or whatever :P), unless they are incapable of doing some specific part for whatever reason or they are not up to par (like graphics).

For now I only feel comfortable with the host doing graphics. :P This is pretty much the same with Eurovision as it is now, the hosts also get to do the stadium, however here it's obviously much easier to just post a picture of a stadium. I will listen to rule change suggestions, however I will listen to anyone anyways. :P

#20 - Schweine - I love it tbh, very nice song with a different flavour to it
#16 - Bad Apple - as far as songs goes, this was probably my favourite, however once swonx decided to go with an English cover instead of the Japanese version he originally sent, it lost some of its ethnic flair
#8 - Pompeii - very nice song with something about it that I like, not sure what :P
#4 - Ride - I do enjoy a good uptempo metal song every now and then
#28 - Magna Epicuri Usu No - pity points for the best original composition ever!
#22 - ÆØÅ - quite enjoy it for no apparent reason :P
#3 - Acid Wolfpack - the only good instrumental song submitted I think
There were too many slower instrumental songs I think. While it was only about 7 songs, it did take about a quarter of the watching time. Nothing against that, I just think it would have been more exciting. That said, the lack of excitement probably led to my victory.
Judgement on my own songs:
#13 - Lejla - 10th is far from a bad place. I am totally happy with this result. I expected it to do better than Shady Lady and Apricot Stone, all this means is I won't send another ethnic ballad like this. :P The song itself came 3rd in Eurovision 2006.
#11 - Apricot Stone - Pretty impressed with this. I thought it would be near last place. 8th place is only one place off of what it got in Eurovision 2010, where it came 7th. The surprise success of this means I will return with a much stronger ethnic pop song next time. I'd still sooner vote for Ride than this tbh, it's my least favourite from the songs I submitted.
#18 - Shady Lady - The first votes came in and Ride was actually winning by a decent margin, with Shady Lady a close second. I couldn't even dream of this winning, especially as spectacularly as this. I figured it would get some love, it's pretty far from a bad song. However it fits a lot of the definitions of slutpop. I believe this won only because of no other alternative. Bad Apple is an alternative, but it was much more polarizing than Shady Lady. You either liked it or hated it, whereas Shady Lady is much more bubblegum and open to everyone. Didn't expect the dance genre to secure 2 out of the top 3 with metal taking second. Once I realized that people stopped voting for Ride and my margin got bigger I was shocked. Still can't believe this did better than 5th place. With a success like this, dance music is probably done getting good results. In contests like these it's hard to get the same winning song year after year.
Should be an exciting next edition with people having an idea of what to send and what to do. Without Electronik Supersonik, the difference between usf and the juries won't be big, or as big as this year. Should make things much more competitive.
Anyways, thanks to everyone for making this Univision quite a bit of fun! It'll be back in December pending nothing happens.

I've confirmed that the Univision cycle is now every 4 months, which means June, October and February. My birthday is in December, and I probably would've done the week after my birthday for Univision had I stuck with the 6 month cycle. :P
It has been a month since the June edition, so still 3 more months to go. :P
I have some pretty big changes I want to introduce to Univision for the next edition. I ran out of time to host it in June so I'm very excited for October.

Speaking of big changes, instead of the boring way of releasing the results, I'm thinking of moving towards the Eurovision way. So I made a scoreboard for it... it's not entirely final but I need comments on it.

I am completely open to any suggestions on what to change! So please tell me! I'll be obviously asking for your flags when you submit a song, in a 165x110 icon and a 40x25 icon.
Anyways changes I am planning for later anyways:
- making it nearly fully automated based on mysql database data
- changing the "lesser points" (7-1 or 6, 3, 1) into a nicer looking/contrasting green texture
Questions I have: is it worth keeping the song number as part of the table or just get rid of it?
