Title: Blacraft Center of Civilization
Post by: vh on April 26, 2012, 02:24:24 PM
In other thread to prevent it being covered up easily.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AipV2b8UWK3pdGlMUkppQ1ZPdDJaNVBfc2dPLUh5NUE#gid=0

If you want, enter all the structures you've built and the information about it. If several buildings are in a single city, feel free to use a single set of coordinates.

What this spreadsheet does, is to determine the 'center of blacraft'. So a large amount of civilization in the east would cause the center of civilization to tilt that direction. Underground structures are counted twice as much because it takes more effort and theoretically would be safer from nuklear bombardment?

If you need more columns, ask me. If you do it by yourself, make sure you haven't messed up any formulas.

Buildings of less than 1000 blocks will be pretty insignificant so we can leave them out probably.

Also, if your building is half complete, determine the size of the half complete building, not what it'll be once it is fully completed.

Inb4 Fiah puts down every single structure in Revoluta, lol.

Anyways, how are we going to define size here? Two buildings that have the same dimensions might not have the same number of blocks (or to use the extreme, one is a hollow shell and one is a solid block). I know you said buildings of less than 1000 blocks (maybe 100 might be better?) can be left out, but how big a square would be solid 1000 blocks?

Also, a joke question, include or leave out blocks in chests? :D

I'll leave out my quarry out of it since its sheer mass alone would tilt the numbers too much.

No leave your quarry in. and it's underground too.

Anyways, 1000 is not alot :P

and the point is to put every structure in to determine the true center.
it might be a bit tedious, but once it's completed it'll only need updating ocasionally

Well 1000 blocks is 10x10x10 but a sphere of 1000 blocks works too.

Space is defined like this:
For an enclosed area, space is all the area inside the walls and including the walls if you built them.

For an unenclosed area, space is the standable surface area x 3
3 because 1 for the block standing on, 2 for you!

Lol, okay. I won't include the mining tunnels that radiate out of it since if I did, it would greatly expand the area (they go out 30 blocks if I remember atm). Also, its not solid, it's actually somewhere around 25% or more empty space.

Would you define something that is in a deep hole that has an open ceiling (my Gaia Hall thing), as being 'underground'? Just checking technicalities and you probably should have an option in underground for both as some buildings are partially underground as well. Like my warehouse for example, I added a few floors underground.

While my Bazaar is more than 10x10, it might not be 1,000 blocks as its a very open structure.

I get about the area and all that, but I'm not sure about 'cylindrical' structures.

Wat, smjjames, how big is ur quarry?

Also lol, time to remember old formulae.

Volume of cylinder is bh, to be exact:

(pi*r^2)h

r is radius and h is height.

Post by: vh on April 26, 2012, 02:55:57 PM
if it's cylindrical just use the pi*r^2*h formula, it's ok if it's not perfect.

and yes, quarries open to air or deep holes like that can count as enclosed

the reason for the 1000 blocks thingy is just to make life easier. 1000 blocks is insignificant but feel free to include it anyway

Wat, smjjames, how big is ur quarry?

I don't remember the exact dimensions, but something like 30x30.

Also, thanks Kipz.

Heres a good place to use to find formulas: http://www.onlineconversion.com/ (http://www.onlineconversion.com/) Has just about everything and then some.

Just a tool that I find useful.

Edit: For the Lighthouse, I'm not exactly sure how I should deal with the dome on the top or if the calculation I'm using includes that, just saying.

Post by: vh on April 26, 2012, 03:45:45 PM
include the dome.

although you could probably calculate the lighthouse as a cylinder, we don't need to be exact here

The formula I tried to use seemed off, which is why I'm asking, and that site I linked has formulas for partially filled cylinders, etc.....

Might be easier to just calculate the dome part separately and then add....

it doesn't need to be exact, i'd just calculate a cylinder prolly.

anyway fixed the formula that determines the center and it is now on a seperate sheet.

isn't cone formula like pi*r^2*h*2/3
Title: Re: Blacraft Center of Civilization
Post by: vh on April 26, 2012, 04:47:22 PM
cone is just cylinder divided by 3

Post by: vh on April 26, 2012, 05:13:46 PM
i declare matty to be the center of blacraft for now :P
Title: Re: Blacraft Center of Civilization
Post by: vh on April 26, 2012, 05:19:20 PM
Current formula to determine center:

value1*xcoord1
value2*xcoord2
value3*xcoord3
value4*xcoord4
..................
etc
autosum above^

divide by autosum of value

???
profit

same with z coords

'value' is basically the 'size' of the structure + some other variables which i shall not mention to avoid confusion

Title: Re: Blacraft Center of Civilization
Post by: vh on April 26, 2012, 05:20:12 PM
basically, the larger the structure, the more times it is counted and so is entered many times into the equation and makes a bigger difference.

So my skyscraper is about 10 blocks wide and ten blocks long, and 60 blocks tall. Would that count as 6000 blocks even though it is mostly hollow?

hi dardar

and yes, but only if it's enclosed.

Skirty, I have no skyscraper...

I haven't played Blacraft in about 4 weeks and Plaidania has been abandoned due to snowspread.

Oh yeah... I built that so I had a place to live while bla waited for 1.8 to come out so I could stake my claim in land.

But does it sink easily?

Also, bump.

I added the Oasis City port facility, but I'm not sure how to add the crane to the values since its a non-typical building in the sense of what we're measuring the volume of here.

I'll probably also see about estimating the size of Border Hill farms and the Pine Hill complex.

Edit: I'm going to make a rough estimation by figuring out the peremiter of the two sections. I don't think theres much overlap and I'm not going to figure the buildings in the area for Pine Hill.
