Title: Number Game (practice round)
Post by: vh on March 17, 2012, 09:43:41 AM
The object of this game is to transport numbers from 'start' to 'finish'. Start is located at position 0 and finish is located at position 1000.

When you successfully transport a number from 0 to 1000, you gain that many points. (If you get the number '1' from start to finish, you win 1 point. If you get the number '100' from start to finish, you win 100 points.)

A number is transported from start to finish at rate 'X' when it is deployed. You can deploy all integers from 2-100.

You will gain 1 chance to deploy for everyday past March 17, 2012 in addition to starting out with 8 deployments.

To deploy a number, post in this format:
Deploying
'number'
'departure time'
'NumberID'

The number id must be a unique 3 sequence of letters so that it can be identified and tracked.

The departure time cannot be after the post date. For example, if it was 1:59 am, i might set the departure time to 2:00 am.

The rate at which a number travels is determined by the formula: y=100/(sqrt(x))-5 . A number moves up this many each 24 hours.

For example, if you deployed the number '1' at 2:00 pm on Sunday, it would be at the position 95 on Monday. There is no rounding.

Numbers can be pirated also.

Say Player A had deployed the number '100', moving it from position 930 to 935.
I could deploy the number '1' and have it overtake the 100. I could then take up to half of the 100.
Say i decide to take 40. My new value is 41 and player A's number is now 60.

Since i am still lighter than him, i can reach 1000 before him and escape.

However, Player A can destroy 59 to leave him with 1 and overtake me before i reach 1000. Then he could pirate up to 10 back again.

To destroy you must post this:

Destroy
'Amount'
'NumberID'
'Time'

When i say up to half, the number is rounded down. If someone had deployed 59, i could only take 29.

To pirate, you must calculate down to the exact minute when the two numbers will intersect at the same position. 2:59:23 becomes 2:59-3:00

Then, before that time, you must post in this format:

Pirate
'Your number id':'Your amount'
'Enemy number id':'Enemy amount'
'Amount-taken'
'timeofpiracy'

Amount taken is the amount you will take from the enemy number.

All the post formats, the time must be in HH:MM:SS format. (24 hour clock)

Scoreboard:

Numbers:

(id)
(amount)
(deployed)

Mudkipz:

EOF:
16
10:59:30

This is still in the experimental stage, so i might tweak the formulas and pirating mechanics.

I don't even get how this game is supposed to work. A(n) example(s) might help?

ok then

Deploying
16
10:59:30
EOF

My number EOF will reach finish in 50 days and i will then gain 16 points.

added this bit

what part of the game don't you get. Imagine it like this

Start<------------------------------------------------------------------->Finish

the object of the game is to launch a number from start to finish

Start<----53-------------------------------------------------------------->Finish

When your number gets to finish, you win that many point

Other numbers can pirate your number too

Start<----13------53-------------------------------------------------------->Finish

Start<----------1353-------------------------------------------------------->Finish

Start<----------43-----------23--------------------------------------------->Finish

ok then

Deploying    <--What does that mean?
16               <-- What does that mean?
10:59:30      <--What does that mean?
EOF             <--What does that mean?

My number EOF will reach finish in 50 days and i will then gain 16 points.

That means i'm moving a number from start to finish

The number is 16 and it started moving at 10:59:30

EOF is the id code for the number so that if we have 12 number 16's we can know which number we're talking about

I thought you could only do 1... and why are you pirating your own thing, or... ?

And how do we know where a number is.

you start with 8 deployments. and gain 1/day

Pirate    ----> (i'm pirating)
DAR      ----> (i'm pirating darvince's number which has the id DAR)
IKT       ----> (i'm pirating with my number which has id IKT)
88        ----> (DAR is 88)
1          ----> (IKT is 1)
TBD      ----> (calculating the time)

so to calculate when IKT will intercept DAR

speed of IKT:95.000
speed of DAR: 5.660

Difference: 89.340 (position)/24 hours

Departure time difference: 3 minutes 51 secs
or 0.06417 hours

0.06417/89.34= 0.000718267 hours

which equals 2.586 seconds.

So it turns out i posted slowly to pirate you because i had already passed you.

i'll revise the rounding rules right now and double check what i just did
