Title: Last-Post Elapsation Forum Game

You collect points to win
You collect points by posting
You collect more points when there is more time in between posts

Formula: *exact time of your post* minus *exact time of last post* in minutes (rounded to the nearest whole number). Let this be "X"
(X^2)/(sqrt(x))=points

Posting Format:
Minutes between posts: 529
Points earned: 110 (rounded to the nearest whole number)
Accumulated Points: (Previous points + Points earned in this post) 324

So this is a forum game; you collect points to win although there really isn't an "end" to the game.
You collect points by posting.
The more time in between posts, the more points you win. You do not collect points if the last person to post was you. This is to avoid someone from triple posting and then deleting all the posts in between to get a high score.

This is how to calculate the amount of points you get per post.

*exact time of your post* minus *exact time of last post* in minutes (rounded to the nearest whole number). Let this be "X"

Just click on the link, put a number after "x=" on the search bar, press enter, scroll down, and click approximate form.

Is a template. Fill in the blanks and watch wolfram alpha do the rest. Conveniently, at the top of each post is the date.

So, the equation is like that, so as to make this game dynamic; you can easily go from losing to winning and vice versa, but not make it too crazy so that if someone posts 2 minutes after you, they'll instantly be a huge amount above you.

Post something resembling this format:

Minutes between posts: 529
Points earned: 110 (rounded to the nearest whole number)
Accumulated Points: (Previous points + Points earned in this post) 324

"Your random commentary or text here"

You can post without this, but you won't earn any points; the person who posts after you does not count your post.

Since posting requires, time; simply post a "taken" and then calculate the time in between; and modify your post.
I'm going to include a 100k minute cap. After 100k minutes, or 69 and 4/9 days, the next poster will earn a fixed amount of 100,000,000 which is 100 million.

Just post to join the game whenever. I'll add your score to le scoreboard.

Also, this may by an issue:
person A goes at 100
person B goes at 200
person B goes at 300
person B erases post at 200
person B goes at 400
person B erases post at 300

Post by: vh on January 03, 2012, 04:04:09 PM: no, you only gain points when you post. so the decision is when to post. If you post early, you win the points. If you manage to post later, you win more points (the equation is quadratic, exponential, whatever.)

And once the cap is up, the topic is either dead, or theres about 5 people stalking it until the last second.

ok, lets try rounding the "minutes between posts" before calculating points. the final result might be a bit off, but it's clearer/easier this way.

you're right with the jackpot...
they win all the "accumulated points" the points started accumulating when the last person went. yes.
it doesn't reset everyone's points. just everyone's "could have gotten if i posted" points.

i've seen a similar thread on another forum...they used just simply x^2
way easier, but then one person can post a week after everyone forgets about the thread and overwhelm them point-wise. a linear formula would just get everyone posting insanely and i don't want this to be a post more wins thread. So i had to find a balance in between, a slowly inflating value, sorta.
