The Lurking Powers
Year 1700
After the Great European War has ended with a disasterous Ottoman defeat, the European map was drawned once again. With the Baltic Commonwealth formed from the remnants of the disunited states in Eastern Europe, the great powers were also changed. The Holy German Empire has formed after a vote of the former Holy Roman Empire to be a united state, however, the Italian states, Austria, Prussia, and a few other states had disagreed to be united. A new war is beginning to come, and Europe will be never be the same again.

The Baltic Union, based at the year 1871.
After the bloody Russian Civil War lasting for 14 years, The Kola Merchant Republic and Finland became independent for the first time ever. The movement to separate from Russia had been going on since Russia had taken over that area, and it finally caused the civil war to erupt in 1852. Finland had been a growing concern in St. Petersburg, and it became independent halfway through in 1859. They allied the rebels of Kola, and defeated the Russian forces by pure luck in 1865.
Estonia hadn't been touched by the Russians, and decided to become a part of the Baltic Union. They became a part of the Baltic Union in 1855.
Riga, which had been a growing power in the Baltic area, became Latvia in 1826, and had been nearly defeated by Russian forces in 1838, but they pulled through, and became part of the Baltic Union in 1844.
Since Norway had become free from vassalage by Denmark, they still retained strong ties. They became part of the Baltic Union in 1866, and they currently have a dispute with Finland, which is the light blue area.
Sweden had had several wars with Finland in the past, but currently has peace, and is vowing for leadership of the Baltic Union, which they joined in 1855.
Denmark was the founder of the Baltic Union in 1843, and is the current leader of it to now.

Also, the great powers are the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Second Republic of France, Kingdom of Prussia-Brandenburg, Ausungemia, and the Russian Empire. The secondary powers are Kingdom of Poland, Union of the Netherlands, Ottoman Sultanate, United Scandinavian States, Republic of Italia, and the Iberian Union.

Story
Denmark formed from Holstein, which then founded the States of Scandinavia Union. Latvia joined with Southern Sweden, Northern Sweden, and Swedish Norway (all three are different countries). This would protect the northern countries in the future. However, tensions between the states may destroy them in the future.

Pink is East Cosmopolitaine, and it got some land from Denmark. Dark Green is West Cosmopolitaine, and it got some land too. Then when they stopped warring, the German Republic declared war and got some land, pushing Denmark back to it's original border.

I really like that flag. The colors are simply awesome together, and I like how the star in the circle goes on top of the blue too.

Hmm, today Denmark's agriculture can sustain 60 million people, but we're only 5-6 million. If we turned meat production into plant production, we could sustain 110 million people. So, any starving country which wants to join The Blaist Union? ;D

Story of the Kingdom of Denmark
Denmark started out as a collection of states which fell very quickly to the Duchy of Syddanmark.
First, the Duchy of Sjælland warred with Nordjylland and claimed a province there.
Then, Syddanmark warred with Nordjylland to gain the land that is in OTL Germany's uppermost borderland, and some at the top. Then the HDE fell due to this.
Lastly (as of now), Sjaelland took over the upper bit of Nordjylland.
Nordjylland became known as Kingdom of Norge (Norway).
Soon, Denmark will form.

Note that this is in 1000s... Denmark in my ATL is a small nation that isn't civilized, yet it formed really early. Holstein just formed, and note that this is a huge nation, but Denmark doesn't know of it all yet.

A Worlda map I'm doing for a Map Continuation on the AlternateHistory forums.

Map which I'm still working on, might be mostly ASB. The POD is when the American Revolutionary War starts in 1765 and ends in 1772, however the war was a fail to the Americans and they are still in British control. Even though the revolution was a fail, many other countries struggled to declare their independence, too. One of the most known successful wars was the Canadian War of Independence which started in 1796 and ended in 1810.
Meanwhile, Cuba managed to declare independence from the Spanish and began to invade other islands nearby. The Europeans didn't mind much, as they thought a unified state which controlled the sea was good enough. However, since Cuba conquered so many islands, their armies and navies were comparable to the Netherlands. When they began to notice, Cuba invaded Mexico on 1892 until 1901. This established control on the Mexican state. Cuba by then established alliances in Latin America to promise from any further attacks from the state.
Eighty years later, however, Cuba wanted more land. Meanwhile, the Latin American countries were in chaos. They had civil wars, wars with other countries, deceases, lack of food, corrupted governments, poverty, and other problems. It was easy to attack the countries, so in 1981, they attacked Brazil and Argentina, starting the Great War. Canada joined the war later and called her allies, which was the Soviet Union, Austria-Hungary, France, the U.K., Prussia, and the Holy Roman Empire. The war might even get more tense, as there has been rumors of a Sino-Cuban alliance.
This is heavily based on a fanfiction story.
Note for the alliance map: The blue color is the "Alliance" and the red color is the "Havana Pact". Darker colors show friendly relations. White countries are neutral.

This ATL starts when China, India, and Prussia form an alliance, and start attacking Europe. The second picture is the alliances. Anyways, the Cordoba Conquest ends after Aragon joined Gascogne to form the United Kingdom of Catalonia, and Cordoba gains Portugal, and Castile, splitting Leon into two parts, separated by Cordoban land, and Castile is looking for independence, and Cordoba gave them a deal. Cordoba would help them war with Leon and become a vassal of Cordoba, but Castile has to pay a large amount of money, around 5000 ducats (which they have).

I recommend this subdivision map (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:BlankMap-World-Subdivisions.PNG), and this border-less world map (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:BlankMap-World-noborders.png). All you need to do, is just crop out the North American area, and bam, you have a map of North America. Be sure to copy all the way down the to the Republic of Panama, and up to the Commonwealth of Canada and Alaska. :P If you want me too, I'll be glad to help you crop it.

No, I just choose any random color. Here's my tip, in Paint (or Paint.net) choose any random color with any random lightness. Make sure your colors are darkish... in fact, my style requires that most of the time, make the Islamic nations darker, and the Catholic nations lighter, indicating infidel status or not. :P

To me it looks like the countries are too. Look at the USSR, a small uneven fold in the paper runs down it through Kazakhstan, and the central parts of Eastern Siberia also look darker than the rest.

While the texture looks good, the borders doesn't look all that good and it's really a cliche ASB scenario. The Nazis would invade the USSR, the United States was greatly opposed to communism (unless a large revolution happened, though that would still be unlikely), Korea would get invaded by the Japanese again unless the Chinese intervened (and that Korea would be weak against the SEA nations), Spain would very unlikely be invaded, and the revolutionary state in Brazil would get controlled by Brazil again due to alliances with the U.S. and several other Latin countries. It really doesn't make sense that Korea almost controls all of Eastern China when they were a small power, unless the Soviet Union helped. The Italians would've invaded Ethiopia already prior to World War II because of the rich oils there. Canada and the other British states would've helped Britain against the Axis.
You should've also used a 1939 map since using the present day map really doesn't make the scenario look good.
Overall, the map looks good but it really has a ASB taste in it. I give it a 6/10.

As Mattia expands northward towards the Great lakes, Aeridani Union is cut off from expanding Westward. So the Economical & Technological powerhouse engages in a war in the north, due to the large amount of known land there (They haven found out about West NA yet). As the Blaist State Empire loses ground, it tries to gain more territory by engaging a war with Darvia; as Darvia sends all it's troops to the south to fight the Blaist State Empire, A.U. cuts in and takes some land in the west. Meanwhile, the other states expand...
I did almost the exact same thing with the blue guys in my addition, too slow though.

I'm using my knowledge of how the population remained somewhat stable and general satistics to come up with these low populations which are actually realistic for 800 BC - 550 BC

Bolivia begins to be desperate for the lost coastline from Chile, with Peru supporting Bolivia, the Irish wanting North Ireland, and the Second Korean War. Saudi Arabia has fallen by the Iranian Alliance, with Egypt establishing the Divine Islamic Protector of Medina and Yemen establishing the Most Islamic Republic of Mecca. Israel manages to drive off the Egyptians, but they are at a draw. Turkey is losing land against the Iranians, and its almost the time for the Russian Communists make a comeback.

Egypt starts a war towards Libya, as they claim the eastern part. Rebellions in Sudan are pro-Iranian, and begin to march towards the capital. India agrees to the Western powers' treaty, and enters the war against the Iranian Alliance. The East African Union and the United Republics of Central America forms, also entering the war. However, a new war erupts at the South American continent, between Bolivia, Peru, and Argentina against Chile.

However, there are rumors of Argentina possibly joining the confederation, and the results could be that the confederation may even be powerful than Brazil itself. Fascist rebellions happen in Southern Germany after pro-democracy rebels burn down several buildings involving other governmental types. In other news, Somalia has finally stabilized and Moldova was annexed by Ukraine, reasons are because of Moldova's economy failing.

They are now one of the most powerful forces in the world, only rivaled by Japan and the US. The Italian Empire is its most trusted ally in Europe, and both of them make most of Europe under their control. Japan has barely won against the USA, after tricking them in several key battles. They control almost all of East Asia, minus the two Chinas and Tibet. The Communists in China declare independence from the Republic, and declares war on the Empire of Japan. The Indian Commonwealth, who was granted independence by England from force, also declares war on Japan. With the Chinese Republic weakening even more, Tibet declares war on them.
The Soviet Union is now a weak nation. They lost all their valuable land in Europe, and lost ports in the Far East. They are deciding whether to dis-establish the nation, or try to power the lands up. The people hope for the latter, as the Americans sending supplies their last hope of avoiding the Nazis and the Japanese.
Britain was forced to give independence to her dominions due to the Nazi's forceful treaty. The Sealion Operation were successful to them, and they hold ports in their homeland and influence towards the Southwest. They now rely on the US to send materials for the post-war time.
The United States, Mexico, and the newly independent nation of Canada are suffering from Nazi rebellions. They are seeking their goal into making their respective governments into a Nazi puppet, but they are being defeated easily. However, gangs in Northern Mexico pop up and makes the situation in Mexico even harder. Central America was unified as a puppet state of the Americans, only for protection from the Nazism and poverty.
In South America, Venezuela and Chile have their governments collapsed and now ruled under a fascist dictatorship with Nazism. Venezuela declared war on Columbia, while Chile declared war on Peru and Bolivia. Civilians fear that this will lead into a proxy war, with the Americans on the coalition side and the Nazis on the fascist side.
The world will forever change. There is now a Cold War, not a two way, but a three way. The former Allies, the Nazi-Italian alliance, and the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere, lead by Japan.

Does the inability to resurrect the Roman Empire affect the populace in any way?

Japan couldn't fight against the Americans that long, and were almost defeated if not for support from the Germans, who developed the nuclear bombs first rather than the Americans. Australia also barely won, but the Japanese couldn't get much land unless they wanted quite a lot of rebellions.

In OTL 1942, the Italians had already control of Greece and Albania, mind you. :P Rommel indeed went to North Africa, and they were more superior against the British and Americans as they devised a plan. Congo is controlled by both Germany and Italy, and Madagascar is controlled by Britain. As a result of the treaty, South Africa, who controlled Namibia at the time, was granted independence with other British dominions. Mussolini decided to hang on with the Germans more as they granted them full independence and when they gave them pieces of Eurasia and Africa. While they were a bit unsuccessful to resurrect the Roman Empire, they decided to form the Italian Empire of the Mediterranean, which is a bit close to the Roman Empire itself.

Japan still controls Micronesia, it's just a province as a part of the Territory of Oceania.

Canada would be allied with the Soviet Union, since both of them hated Nazism and the fact they were allies in the war. The states bordering Canada were so that it could be easier to try to topple both governments at the same time.

Because of the war, Alaska still remained a territory (I might change it the coast into a military zone in the next version, with other fixes). All of the Indian princely states hated the fact strong foreign powers were next to them after independence. When they got support of the Western powers, they attacked the Japanese with the Americans sending them war subsides and supplies, which strengthen them. Japan could've taken New Zealand, but the Nazi's treaty with the British didn't let them take the nation. This is one of the primary reasons that the Japanese broke away from the rest of the Axis.
I would expect more factional divides in the US between communists, facists, nazis, and demo-repubs. I take it by the color the US rescued and kept Hawaii.
The U.S. is actually at the near of the second American Civil War, with pro-nazi movements starting in first. Soon, other factions will take action as the government have trouble.

Germany let them control the Sinai Peninsula, but both Germany and Italy have control on the Sinai Canal for specific purposes.

World War III has started. Rather than being fought with nukes, it'll be like a normal war, with tanks, guns, and the like.
North Korea attacks South Korea. China joins the side of North Korea, America joins the side of South Korea. However, since American troops are far from South Korea at this point, South Korea is getting destroyed by North Korea and China.

NATO joins the side of South Korea, however some betray the NATO alliance and join the side of North Korea (France and Spain, you traitors!). Mongolia also joins the side of North Korea. Japan also helps, and finally the forces in South Korea can push back North Korean forces. France and Spain capture nearby nations.

If they used nuclear weapons, either no-one would win, or possibly USA because I'm not sure China has a strong enough nuclear arsenal to destroy USA.
On the other hand, if China blew a nuke in the upper atmosphere, it could ruin all the electrionics and USA would be defenseless. I think USA also relies a lot more on electrionics than China would, so if they both lost electrionics, considering China has a military of 4,585,000 people and USA has 2,940,000, I think it would be hard for USA to win.
If electrionics were lost in society, USA would shut down immediately. China would probably win a prolonged war.
Those are just my thoughts, and assuming Europe doesn't join the fun.

This resulted into most of the Moroccan colonies ceded to the Mali Empire, which is still prospering to this day. Their massive colonization of the West and the powerful homeland in Africa has been generally accepted as a threat to European nations. Thus, the Portugese and Aragonese began to counteract this growing problem by establishing colonies as well, next to the Mali. Occitania and Navarre follow after.
The Romantic Union fell, and the power city has been transfered from Londinium to Paris, the French kingdom once again. The reason was because of the pestering Scots, who had been determined to control all of the Briton Isles. and they had to do it by forced. They still have the southern coast of the Great Briton Island, but England as now risen from its ashes once again. The French and Scots has also been aiming for the West, gaining islands in the seas of the dread.
A recent war between Germania and against the forces of Bohemia and Franconia was a great defeat for the Germanians. They had lost 10% of its territory, yet lost one fourth of its population. They are feeling humiliating by other countries ganging up on them, so they are beginning to be isolated. There has been talks of leaving the Holy German Union as well, even the North Italian states are considering unifying and defeat the German states.
The Poles has finally united their country, and defeated the Bohemians in the War of Polish Freedom by reconquering territories where the Poles had inhabited before. The Prussians has been given a land by the Poles, in exchange for being a vassal state, as previous revolts troubled the Poles greatly. The Lithuanians and Byelorussians has begun to cooperate closely, while the Ukrainian state is losing ground. Muscovy and Novgorod are challenging each other over the Russian states for a dominant position (much like Austria v. Prussia during 1815-1861).
The Rumanians are searching for an opportunity to unify the state under one, and Illyria has begun to get loose from its chains. The Byzantines has inherited the Palmyrenes and there has been talks of restoring the former Roman Empire, which has been called impossible, but they are still eager enough. The Persians and the Kazakhs are unfortunately in a loss as they began to fall in the Central Asian region. Meanwhile the Muslims in India has successfully secured control in the north, while the Hindu Indian union breaks apart, only a small part of the territory remains. The Portugese and the Aragonese has also taken an interest into the region as well, the first part of colonialism of Asia beginning...

The emperor hastily gave peace offers to the Manchus and the Southern Chinese coalition, which they gain territory of the Chinese. The Great Riot of Hoang, which it has been named, is one of the greatest number of casualties in the history of China, numbering from ten million to fifteen million.
Southeast Asia has trouble brewing. The growth of Ayutthaya, Malacca, and Majapahit and the decline of Khmer, Aceh, and Brunei is unbalancing the growth of power, and there has been speculations of an alliance between the three warmongering powers.
In Africa, the Kongolese has grown and established various protection areas for other tribes. In exchange, they would pay taxes monthly. Portugal and Aragon are seeking forts on the African continent, especially some of the West African coast and all of the East African coast. Down, down, down. His gaze falls steadily, watching the aerial formation break apart as one of the four jet fighters suddenly bursts into flame and loses one wing, electricity arcing around the cockpit and frying the struggling human inside. The war machine shoots across the property like a comet, leaving a smoking white tail behind as it comes roaring down on the pillars marking the edge of the evil magic.
In some ways the speed of the plane is a good thing, because it moves so fast that it breaks free from the mystic influence, but it's still terrible to watch. The nations on the ground try to scramble and get out of harm's way, but with a full payload of rockets and fuel coming down on them it's a futile effort.
She can't hear the explosions, can't feel the heat of it as it ripples through the air and strips the branches off the trees, or the force as it carves an ugly back hole in the landscape, but she can see it.

She can see what kind of pain it's causing.

The colors, however, do mean something else.
The dark blueish color in Greenland is a NATO Member; in this case, the Kingdom of Denmark.
The tealish color in Canada is the British Dominions.
The color in the USA is... well, the United States.
The dark blue color in Mexico, Argentina, etc. are other U.S. allies
The light red in Central America are Soviet influenced states.
The red in Cuba are Soviet allies.
The blue in Colombia and Brazil are U.S. influenced.
The orange in South America are other socialist states.
The Guyanas, from left to right, are the British, the Dutch, and the French.
