Post by: vh on June 09, 2011, 10:39:50 AM
So I found this thing that creates random solar systems ^^

No Stargen?! Blasphemy!

Stargen is epikal (http://www.eldacur.com/~brons/NerdCorner/StarGen/StarGen.html)

It also makes stable systems. ^-^

Yes, I assume he accidently posted it here.

i actually prefer random systems to acrete systems, since the universe itself seems to be extremely random.  a lot of the planetary systems we're actually finding out there are ridiculously weird, and well outside the bounds of any generator which tries to model "realistic" systems based on our own.

Theres a few other good generators on that website, i posted a planet texture one a few weeks ago and theres one to generate names as well if your stuck for ideas.

I just place ones in the freaking if I want a realistic system.

This is very cool.

Adding some kind of random system generator to Universe Sandbox is on the list.

Thanks Dan

But even this Donjon thing is better than nowt

Trouble is - we keep finding New Systems.

We are up to 22 Colonised Star Systems now.

Update - 24 Systems now - 22 Colonised

Just finding two more - and both have intelligent life.

A Human Matriarchy in "hunter-gatherer" times.

And - the Chlorons - with 1800's type Technology.

Thank FiahOwl

I now have Stargen on my PC.

This will help a lot, with "Discovery Reports" - so I don't have to "Invent" Star Systems.

However - we do still find several Systems with Asteroid Belts ( thereby hangs another problem )
So I will need to "fiddle" some of the Results

Stargen generates too many planets.. and plus, not all realistic.

A random system generator is def. something we want in the next version.
We currently have Accrete (the parent of StarGen) implemented and working,
but as someone else already stated the results are neither systematically stable nor very realistic.

So, yes there will be random systems - we just can't say how realistic they will be eventually.

Cheers,
chris
