Title: Realm Map Game 2
Post by: FiahOwl on April 12, 2015, 08:13:28 PM
This is a map game about constructing a fictional (Universalis?) realm thingy. Not sure exactly what it is but we were all excited about it on the IRC. 1900's tech or so.

Haezhen (obviously not Aeridani, no way this isn't the same nation just a different name) is somewhere in the ballpark of England/Ireland size-wise, with the center island being able to give Jutland a run for its money. Climatically, it somewhat resembles the western French coast, and geographically it tends to be quite flat but with rapidly rising hills along the southern and north-eastern border.

It is composed of 12 districts and a capital district, highlighted in darker red. The nation is divided into three parts: The southern part, island part and northern part. These three parts are all separated by a (great strait? river? I dunno, whoever puts a nation south of Haezhen gets to decide. maybe an amazony river?).

Haezhen has no current political allies, enemies or neighbors as they do not exist yet.

a continent

and I have no idea about image size and frankly that shouldn't matter, but probably it will end up being at least twice its current size or maybe more - however much space we need to fit all the countries we want

Malland Princedom, resembles the British Peak District, getting more rough further to the north.
The country has 5 ceremonial counties, which contain several lower district and township titles. The capital province is deep purple.

The Laúcasript Commonwealth is composed of two semi-autonomous states, Lau and Casript. Each of those constituent states are further divided into counties. It is ruled by an elected president via a system of representative democracy, and experiences a moderate level of corruption.

Lau mainly lies along the flat Ihaulkt basin, however its eastern portion experiences steep rises in elevation corresponding to the Vaus mountain range. Casript is totally encompassed by the highlands adjacent to the Vaus mountain range and relies heavily on the Agede river along its southern border in order to export goods.

The Laúcasript Commonwealth's current presidency and elected senate are both dominated by revanchist political parties who seek one day to reclaim the coastal state of Verderenz they lost to Haezhen during the War of Three Towers. For this reason, they actively seek to align themselves to Haezhen's rivals and maintain good relations with their culturally similar relatives in Malland.

Jesvean - The Jesvean Dominion

A mystical kingdom located south of Haezhen. Although undoubtedly they maintain friendly relations with its neighbors, its true intentions are unknown and efforts of foreigners attempting to penetrate deeper into the kingdom have failed, with either disappearance or ordered to turn back. The king has never been seen before in public ever since the death of the last ruler, although some rumors unfold that he may be practicing witchcraft inside his own palace to bring wrath upon his neighbors. These rumors have been since dismissed by many of those in the government.

Toviaß - The Kingdom of Toviaß

A kingdom located further south down, from Jesvean and bordering the coast of the Pvilies Sea. Friendly relations with other neighbors are the norm, although cautious of the various countries around it. Its leader is paranoid, and the military has grown steadily ever since the start of their reign; these have been covered up with calls of peacekeeping by the royal government. No doubt that contraptions built by the military have been tested annually; unusual sightings have popped up in the Pvilies Sea, along with reports of strange noises or the sounds of the world collapsing from time to time.

If there were to be a competition to determine the sick man of this Realm, the Ovarilant Empire would beyond qualify as it appears to be simultaneously dying of pneumonia, cancer, nervous system failure and explosive diarrhea. The scramble to divide the once great power is on, and in the north Laúcasript is taking advantage of the situation to "liberate" some states that they apparently owned at one point. The Pvilies Commonwealth has seceded as well, and they are currently attempting to expand their domain. In the south the long oppressed Argosta people have taken advantage of the situation and formed the nation of Argostan, soon after realizing that they probably wanted a warm water port or two. As if this was not enough, apparently the Ovarilants thought it was the perfect time to undergo a neo-socialist revolution.

With the balance of power severely disrupted throughout the Realm after the fall of one of the great powers, the great game of diplomacy has entered new, unstable territory that many fear will lead to a war to end all wars.

Oh, there's also a small island nation called Brunha.

I added a volcanic arc of islands to the east so I can make some sort of sensicle tectonic plates, so comment if you like it or not.

Avravon - The Principality of Avravon

A small confederation of princedoms located on the western shores of the Pvilies Sea, it is no doubt paranoid about Toviass's military pickup that it has started to speed up the production of its own military as well. Although lagging behind slightly in terms of (public) technology seen, it has slightly more manpower than its neighbor, and is confident that they'll at least secure some type of peace, if everything goes well as planned.

Wirakalis - The United Republics of Wirakalis

A republic just south of Avravon, compared to its neighbors, it isn't much of a military with a state, but rather a country who looks up to economic terms. It began to trade extensively with its neighbors, and that included people on different sides; profits were profits, and they claim to be entirely neutral. Despite threats of war, Wirakalis has become a thriving country; although in recent times, with the Socialist Movement taking explosive hits, it began to fortify its border with its neighboring, easterly country...

Teivosia - The People's Popular Republic of the Teivosian States

One of the main sponsors of socialism in the region, it was rocked by a violent revolution two decades ago that included the beheading of the monarch, and the massacre of the last government, who were all killed in a fire in the Parliamentary building. Although, as expected, revolts came to being, they were quickly crushed by socialist fronts, and began to quickly industrialize from a primarily agrarian state. Opposition were all crushed, and it remains a one-party state. The country's Premier dreams of the socialist flag, flying from Teivosia to Vilsgohd.

It controls a tiny protectorate that will soon be incorporated into the national country. The small patches of darker territories are industrial areas under total control of the government; there are rumors fleeting that these are actually camps for the armament of to-be socialist rebels.

Fierræňa, or Fierraenha, is undoubtedly one of the most accomplished militaristic empires of this era. Their massive, professional army holds a great deal of prestige throughout the Realm, and is complemented by a sizable navy and zeppelin brigade. The delicate and intricate treaties that bind together the international stage have captivated Fierraenha, as they seek to both remedy international crises and cause them as well.

Fierraenha faces a unique problem of being surrounded by opposing forces on all sides, and thus has developed a very centralized and efficient form of administration to tap into the country's domestic resources. Fierraenha has had poor relations with Haezhen ever since the War of Three Towers and has done little to improve them.

Lero is a small, densely populated volcanic peninsula which includes its peripheral islands on the Lero Arc. It maintains a large navy and an impressive series of fortifications in order to ward off any attack. It is linked culturally with Fierraenha and Haezhen, however it has large influences from Vilsgohd. Lero seeks to form an alliance with other states that would help it retain sovereignty in the face of a potential Fierraenha threat, and for this reason aims to align closely with Haezhen even if it puts itself at odds with Vilsgohd.

The Kublian Monarchy
Ruled by the Kublia Family, this monarchy seceded from Vilsgohd with support from the public. The Kublians and the Gohdsifs have a long history of violent wars and negative relations. While the Kublians were maintained under Gohdsif control during much of their history, it wasn't until recently that they recruited an entire army to fight for their freedom. The battle that would later ensue would be known as the Battle of [Visgohd Capital.]

Despite being a monarchy, the family of Kublia strives to give their citizens extensive civil rights and a non-discriminatory justice system.

The Arnich Rebellion
The Arnich Rebellion (shown in orange) is an undergoing rebellion occurring in Southern Kublia. These extremists want a fully integrated democracy for Kublia, and want to see an increase in political freedom.

I feel like I have left some information, so excuse me I'm just exhausted. :(

The Poyuska Union is a rather large system of federated states, although one region is quite autonomous. It has a client state, Masech, that follows it around and does things. The south quite arid, with the middle being a savanna and the north containing forests akin to those found in the Yucatan peninsula.

Poor Ruscha is squished between the two great powers of Fierraenha and the P.U., and they are more than a little concerned about the future of their sovereignty.

Venegalu is in a similar situation to Lero, seemingly just chilling on their subtropical islands. Their future against the expansionist Poyuska Union is secure due to the Venegalu Mountains that separate Venegalu from Poyuska.

I feel like I've added all the great powers so far, maybe someone else should try adding one. We need more detail in the southwest. Protip: the area directly south of the P.U. will be a desert but probably not a big one if the coast is adjacent to the left

LANGMANN
A collection of democratic federated states that live under an elected president. The three original reaches of the Langmann democratic system are highlighted, from these provinces the new democratic system spread somewhere in the high middle ages. Every 'reach', a seperate province, has it's own elected local representative and council. It is said the Gohdsif family lineage descended from these parts. Despite being a democratic system, the politics and overall attitude retain a fierce imperialistic streak.
Trade is conducted along the island chain due south. These are used as springboards to further split trading to other nations.

Mountainous and scattered with valleys and fjords up to the north.

but why would there only be like 5 landslides

I'd expect the entire north coast to be covered in them

and they'd probably go down slopes like rivers so not just all straight inlets

and if they were landslides why would it go down to sea level

I'd also expect a ton of lakes if it rains that much

The Necadian Empire has one of the strongest militaries in the Realm, competing with powers such as the P.U. and Fierraenha. Its booming economy combined with strong military efforts have dubbed Necadia "The Big Bully" due to its tendency to harass smaller nations for their resources.

Fahrel, a small democracy, recently seceded from Necadia due to a growing impatience towards government corruption. Its President has given the citizens voting rights and some social equality. Necadia still recognizes Fahrel as part of their nation.

Alastor is a culturally developed nation, notable for its high education and flourishing culture. Its stable economy, low crime rates, and free education has made the nation one of the safest places to live in.

Kajo Nayaki is a nation inspired by the Japanese system, especially with its 'emperor' who still leads the country. He may like to call himself the emperor, but everyone laughs when he does so because of how small and insignificant the nation is. what do you mean you forgot the chicken nuggets

Looks like people are interested in an industrial era map game. Let's begin, I guess.

USE 060606 FOR INTERNATIONAL BORDERS

The Fraehainese Empire

Based out of the eternally raining Fraehain Island, these gloomy inhabitants spend most of their days drinking plame (made from the plam fruit produced in their overseas colonies), plotting to control international trade, and staring across the Belvin channel for signs of their eternal enemy, the [RIVAL_EMPIRE_ACROSS_THE_CHANNEL].

Their holdings on this continent consists of six provinces which are further divided into districts. The nation is governed by a constitutionally-limited emperor who, these days, mainly does figurehead business. The real power often lies in the Provincial Parliament and the Head of Parliament.
Fraehain mainly is concerned with keeping a large naval presence. After they were kicked off the mainland a hundred or so years ago, they never really tried to climb back on. Instead, they stole everyone's islands, and when they ran out of islands to collect, they decided to go overseas to find more islands.
Fraehain lacks dedicated allies on the mainland, instead choosing to float around in effort to keep the balance of power somewhere favourable to them. Usually this simplies down to "anywhere but [RIVAL_EMPIRE_ACROSS_THE_CHANNEL]".

The Fraehainese are pretty happy at the moment, seeing as how they haven't really been invaded by an outside power for a century or two. They also found lots of coal in Southwestern Fraehain, which has enabled Fraehain to keep up with other nations during the industrialization of this continent into an imperialistic machine to conquer the rest of the world.

Fraehain is trying very hard to become rich, and is a big believer in mercantilism. So far their endeavors have been paying off very well, and they have achieved many things all empires end up doing: Killing indigenous inhabitants of other places, stealing their land and bringing their natural resources back home.

Rvasatic Commonwealth

Once a small region filled with embroiled leagues and cities, a man by the name of Rvsatica, from a tiny, peasant village held within the southern part of the country, came to lead and conquer the fighting factions. Despite an army of a few hundred in the beginning, volunteers filled in and it soon exploded into thousands. The endorsement of guilds and trade helped its popularity, and the seas became his domain as the last remnants of the independent leagues came to an end.

The man continues to reign the country to this day, and although ruling with absolute power, much of the country is ran by government corporations, as well as some public corporations. Trade is often regulated and encouraged by the government, and the public stands strong alongside them, with the wealthy exploding into god-like statuses. The poor have some gains compared to earlier fighting, and often works in the factories for the rich -- some rights have been granted to them, but do not have the same kind of benefits as the wealthy and the corporate.

Its military is significantly strong, although its land-based army is not as strong as the other nations on the continent. Its navy, however, is powerful, but is used on the defensive; most often to protect shipping and trade routes. The nation has some outposts within the [NAME OF ISLAND] Island towards the south, where many workers flock to, with rumors of riches beneath the land.

The Technomancy of Lraj is the preeminent center for Gem Magic, as it controls the Old Crater which is a valuable source of extraterrestrial gems. It hosts several top magic schools such as Fihano's Academy and Stonerabbit University. The preferred drink there is goat milk tea with magic-infused tapioca-like chewy balls inside of it, locally known as 'goba'.

The United Duchies of Burvés is a confederation of four Duchies, comprising a grand total of 20 provinces. The region's last queen died with no eligible heirs and 5 years of on-and-off civil war left the realm weary from battle, and blighted with pockets of rebellion.

It was ultimately decided that the royal house was dead; the senior dukes of the realm compromised to rule their own lands co-operatively. The future of these sovereign titles is uncertain as inbreeding is rife, in the game of intrigue to collapse the titles into a new, singular, grand royal house plays out.

A spine of mountains ambles to the north, but also carries deep into the continent, sitting between Burvés and Lraj. The area of mountain chain out in the ocean has been abandoned since the fall of the crown, those lands were under the realm's charge since time immemorial (said to be a gift from the Old Fellows) and recolonisation has proved futile as the lands are too harsh for humans to tame on their own.

In the foothills an enormous lake of infused water lies. It trickles from mountain springs and the Duchies are lucky that they flow into their watersheds.

The Fringe is a lawless wasteland almost completely cut off from the realm. Large fissures have snuck deep into the continent, likely ever since the asteroid first struck and formed the Old Crater. The Fringe was once a prosperous island kingdom, but all reasonable people have since left and now only the poor and those seeking escape from the law remain.

Sinister Tribes survive on a sheared and torn small continent, fracturing from its slow travel west to its end within the gullet of world's void. They are not of Human ancestry.

For hundreds and possibly thousands of years these tribal entities were suppressed by colonists from the west. However, when the continent suffered an earthquake kickstarting its move westward towards the edge, settlers left for the home realms as most of their colonial efforts and infrastructure had been destroyed.

The splitting of the lands there has however been said to have exposed great earthly riches, and who knows what else. Some travellers have attempted to gather these riches while the islands still exist, many have not returned.

This left the tribes to while away what time they have left there, although vague chatter tells of small bands settling on the wild lands of the home realms...
