EDIT: Realized Type Ia Supernova hasn't been implemented yet. Looking forward to new types of supernovae being added!


Hi, is there any way for the age of objects to change instead of manually altering it yourself? If I accelerate the time for instance, I don't notice any alterations in an objects age. If I de-select "lock" for the age, it doesn't seem to make any difference. If I simulate stellar evolution, the Suns age changes, however I'm not sure how to simulate it with objects manually added in.

Also, there's quite an extensive database of available objects, however only a few are displayed unless you manually type in a given name. Is there a way to view the entire astronomical catalog? There are also some objects that I can't seem to find, such as PSR J0337+1715 which can only be found in the "white dwarf, white dwarf, pulsar" test. I thought that maybe I can add it to be the database by saving the object, but when I add that object in, it's information is completely different such as radius and temperature (appears as orange rather than blue etc.)

if you acellerate time enough, the stars age should increase and it will go through its life cycle and end in a supernova if its large enough, unless youve locked the age by clicking on the circle beside the part that says age

as far as i know, matter transfer between bodies isnt implemented yet, unless you collide them of course :P

i think theres a tab in the list that displays them all, i cant say 100% as i havn't played in a while, but i think there is.

Thanks for the response! :D I just figured that out now... I realized that when I put them into a binary system and accelerate to ~1 M years, it would slow the simulation down so I wasn't able to see the age differ. I have to reduce the tolerance to the point where they fly out of orbit.

when I click on the add symbol, it only shows me a few objects, no tab anywhere to be seen.

odd, there should be tabs like "Stars", "Planets", "Black Holes", etc.

can you show a screenshot of it?

Sorry, I think what I said didn't make much sense. what I mean is that there is a large astronomical catalog that I can't seem to view in its entirety unless I specifically search for a given object. I have tabs such as planets, moon, blackholes etc. but for example, If I want to add 51 Pegasi B, I have to manually search for it, or if I want a pulsar for instance, I have to type in "PSR...." I'm just asking if there's a way to view every object instead of manually searching for it. I'm referring to the add tab and not the open tab.

On a side note, every time I add an object and try and add elements, it turns black.  :-\

We deliberately chose not to show the entire catalog due to performance reasons.
There are many many many objects in the database, way too many to display all at once.

We opted to show the known or "popular" objects, while all the rest can be searched for.

Thanks for the reply, Chris. Just out of curiosity, roughly how many objects are there? That makes sense, although for some reason I kind of feel cheated, haha. :P Is there any folder you can access through your directory to view all objects or is is strictly search online?

Not sure if this is the right place, but I'd like to suggest the option to add objects to the popular objects displayed (As in right-clicking and add to displayed objects e.g.). I know you can save objects which adds it to the list, but it creates a file which seems redundant in the case of only wanting to save an object containing its original properties (not referring to saving custom/edited objects). Also, when I open a saved object, its properties have changed. Another suggestion is to make custom folders e.g. "pulsars" in the stars tab.

These are merely for convenience/personalization, but it may be worth consideration.

Letting you tag objects as "favourites" to show up in the first tab sounds like a good idea.
We'll look into that.

There's no folder to go through, because all objects are stored in a local SQL database, which isnt visible to you since it's part of the the compressed resource files that get deployed on clients.

Saving/Loading objects isnt quite completed yet, so expect all kinds of weird behaviour when you do it.
We'll let everyone know when saving/loading is ready for primetime ;)

And to answer your question completely, as of now there are:

500 galaxies
~10.000 stars
~ 2200 planets
~ 33.000 solarsystem objects (minor objects)

We reserve the right to change all of the above numbers as time progresses ;)

Thanks for answering my question, that's certainly an impressive number. My poor knowledge on individual astronomical objects certainly doesn't help me, haha.

Are there any general tips to finding particular objects? I know PSR lists a few pulsars, but I can't seem to find many Brown Dwarfs etc... I'm guessing the answer to my question is knowing the specific name of whatever object you're looking for.

Another thing, are there specific types of objects like Y-Dwarfs, T-Dwarfs, magnetars etc.? And if not, will they be possibly implemented?

Sorry for the overwhelming questions, I feel like a kid in a candy store, lol. ;)
