Title: Version 2 Release Candidate Is Available to Beta Testers
Post by: Dan Dixon on May 02, 2010, 01:15:03 AM
Run your beta version and let me know what happens.

After 20-30 minutes of testing... It will be released to everyone!

Exciting, I'm downloading it now. :)
Are there any special features we should test?

I'm trying the new tutorial. When I zoom in on a moon in the Saturn and moons system, this happens to Saturn's texture. The light spot get's invaded by dark blurry squares slowly, but it turns normal when you zoom out again.

Run through the Intro tutorial from the main menu.

That's where everyone will be automatically started when they run it for the 1st time.

But first... Just let me know that it seems to work at all. :)

It works fine for me so far. There's a problem I've posted in my first post though.

It happened to me. It's probably the same with the glitch star texture.

You may need to manually update.

Open the folder and run "update.exe"

Or just redownload the setup.exe from the website.

Here's another small one, if it's a bug at all. Some strange numbers appear (highlighted in yellow), changing very fast, while I use the slider in this new, awesome menu:

The program crashed after I did this:
1) Press the background brightness slider.
2) Tried to move it to 1, but probably ended up outside the scale. The slider continued to follow my mouse vertically inside the scalebar.
3) Clicked in the number field to the scalebar. Crash.

Here are the log files:

my license's expired lol i cant test for bugs anymore ;D

That wasn't supposed to happen.

Can you try re-entering your beta code?

Actually... Yes. That should fix it. Sorry for the inconvenience. (Please let me know either way if it works or not.)

The beta codes will work for another 2 weeks.

Thanks for finding all of these bugs. It's really helpful and appreciated..

I plan to release an update no later than May 8th (probably sooner).

Here are four more:

3: Labels for most buttons are missing. I'm sure they were there when I used the program earlier today though.
4: Distant/big lines flicker when you're on small scales, but that's nothing new I think.
5: The teapot is awesome. But there is a hole in it, visible from inside only. You can look through the surface from one side, but not the other, I think. But isn't it always that way when 3D models are used?
6: Like 4, I don't think it's a new one, but Mars turns dark when zooming close to the teapot (or other things on a very small scale).

3 - Restart the program. This is because the trial deactivates them, and then it doesn't properly reactivate them once you enter your product key.
4 - On the list. I think I may have a solution for this coming in the next month.
5 - That's this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utah_teapot - That model is actually built into the engine that I use. Although I should replace it with a properly teapot model eventually. :)
6 - A similar issue to #4. I hope to eventually fix this.

Okay, very good. :)
I found this bug, when choosing 'open with' on an .xml-file. The stars were surrounded by white, rotating 2D squares that are slightly transparent:

I'll add an on screen delete button in the next update.

I found this bug, when choosing 'open with' on an .xml-file. The stars were surrounded by white, rotating 2D squares that are slightly transparent:

This is a problem with the background loading of textures after the system has been loaded. A work around until this is fixed: Press Ctrl+R to reload the system and the white square should go away.
