Title: DRM free of this software
Post by: ZackG on September 07, 2014, 12:37:38 PM
Greetings. as you know majority of game companies use a form DRM to crack down on piracy but it isn't working and instead these companies are treating their customers like criminals and I don't support any form of DRM. I saw that this software uses Steam as DRM and I object on using steam as its DRM because of these factors.

1. the community base of Steam is run by morons and trolls
2. fandoms that I don't want to say rule most of the steam base
3. you have to run steam at all times in order to play steam and don't get me started on the offline mode. I don't feel like having bulk-ware running when playing the game

That being said, is there a possibility of a DRM free version of this game?

Here's a post from Dan about a DRM-free version:

We may release a DRM-free, stand alone version in the future... if we do so we'll likely be releasing that through Humble, so anyone that's purchased so far would get access to that. We currently have no time table for when this might occur.

the advantage of Steam for us is that it's super easy to post new builds and updates (it takes us just just a couple minutes and a few clicks) and they host all the files. The advantage for you is that updates just work.

I registered just to post that I have $25 ready to purchase US2, but I won't purchase it for Steam.  I'll be more than happy to purchase a copy (perhaps 2), if you release it without DRM.  I like to control when my software receives updates.  I have a game on Steam now which the latest update has rendered unplayable with a non-Microsoft controller.  The developer is working to fix it, but in the meantime, it's useless to me.  And I have no way to roll back the version.

I also want to use US2 on my notebook that I do not use for games and have no intention of installing Steam for one application.  Please reconsider your decision!

Thanks!

Thanks for your feedback.

As quoted by Bla above, we are considering releasing a DRM-free version in the future. It would likely be made available to anyone who has already bought it (via their Humble key page).

We are still in development, and as it stands, Steam is the best distribution option we have.

And I have no way to roll back the version.

I just want to address this concern - This is subject to change, but currently we use Steam's "beta" options to allow rolling back to earlier Alpha versions, if you choose.
