Title: Posting Tutorials (Please Sticky)
Post by: Xriqxa on August 24, 2014, 12:02:28 AM
A few tutorials for posting:

Adding Images

1. Click “Reply”
 >”Add Attachments”
 >”Browse for image”
 >”Select Image”
 >”Click “OK”
 2. Add message to post

Alternative (And better) Method:
1. Upload image to imgur
2. Click on image to take you to a webaddress consisting of a white screen and the image in question (THIS STEP IS VITAL)
3. Copy the URL
4. Click the Mona Lisa icon (Located very bottom left of the multitude of BBCode options above the text box)
4. (Alternative) Type “(http://) (this should appear when clicking the Mona Lisa button)
5. Paste the URL inbetween the two [img]’s
6. Click “Preview” (Next to the “Post” option) to make sure it shows up.
7. If a small box with a checklist appears instead of your desired image, redo steps 1-4

Attaching Logs or other files

1. Click “Reply”
 >”Add Attachments”
 >”Browse for file”
 >”Select Image”
 >”Click “OK”
 2. Add message to post

Modifying Posts instead of double posting

1. Go to top right of post
2. Next to “Quote” there are two options, “Modify” and “Delete”
3. Click “Modify”
4. Apply changes

Making Threads or Polls
1. Go to top right of the page with Threads, otherwise known as “Boards”
2. Click “NEW TOPIC” or “NEW POLL”. Make sure the board you are in is relevant to your thread/poll
3 (For Thread). Type in a relevant and descriptive title for the Thread.
3 (For Poll). Create a relevant and descriptive title for the Poll. Make sure the questions in the poll are neutral and do not take sides, e.g. humiliate disagreers or overwhelm with multiple questions leaning towards your desire and only one question leaning away.
4. After typing in the message box, click “Post” like you would for a post in a thread.

Report abusive or irrelevant posts/threads

1. Go to bottom right of post.
2. Click “Report to Moderator”
3. Describe why you reported the post/thread in the message box provided.
4. Wait
5. If a moderator (person who has control of forum) thinks it deserves to be deleted/edited, it will be. (Don’t worry the are moral people)

Send message

1. Click on user that you want to message
2. Under his/her profile picture, click “Send Message”
 >If you want to send to multiple users, type in the username in the first text box, above the recipient’s name.
 > If you want the sharing to other users to be private, click “Add BBC” and type in a name.
3. Add a topic name (unless you don’t want to; if you don’t, leave it alone)
4. Click “send” when you are done typing the message.
NOTES:

1.If you are redirected to a message that says, “This user has blocked your PM”, then it means that you are either on his/her “Ignore List” or the user has blocked messages from people other than on his/her “Buddy List”.
2.You cannot send more than 20 messages per hour. If you want to have a conversation, go to the Universe Sandbox Inter Relay Chat (http://universesandbox.com/forum/index.php/topic,1979.0.html)

Adding Videos

Simply paste the YouTube video link in the text and when you post, it will show up as playable video in the post.

I asked Dan if he thought we should sticky it but he hasn't replied yet. It may be helpful to some but I don't really imagine it to be necessary for a sticky, so I'll leave it up to Dan if it should be stickied.

This was directed at new users who have just joined.

A lot of people are new to SMF and sometimes need help.

I just posted it here so we wouldn't have relevance issues.

But why not just have it as a sticky in every board then?
