Title: Collisions Bug (?)
Post by: Xriqxa on August 11, 2014, 03:46:00 AM
When I collide something into Jupiter, it reduces the mass by an entire half, if not more.
Also, when I turned Jupiter into a star of 707 Jupiter masses, it attracted a body, causing it to collide into it, leaving behind an ultra-fast spinning yellow globe that was only 15 Jupiter masses.

Also, I would like to point out that I found a random planet called "Anger". The game feels me O_O

strange, we discuss in the chat steam

The mass lowering event happens with larger objects, a ceres didn't affect it but a neptune turned it into fragments.

I've test many collisions in the last hours, but is seems that mass is not conserved in almost 100% of the cases. There is very often a very noticeable mass loss, which is very "unphysical".

Yeah, i once collided a random gas giant with jupiter, and it made jupiter dissapear into many fragments, including a earth-massed "planetoid"

Am i the only one that can't get earth to melt with impacts?

Rotfl, i spammed asteroids at earth until it exploded and it made a 266 AU radius black hole fragment the mass of 5147 milky ways

Try turning off climate sim, with climate sim on you cannot melt the earth for some odd reason.

Yeah that kind of works, but it's impossible to heat it up.
Glad i included the fact that earth doesn't cool down with climate turned on in a bug report
I don't think this needs a bug report from me, someone else probably did one already(You probably)
Even if no one actually did send a bug report the devs can always check the forums

Another phase-through planet dance (turn off volume; jumpscare background noises ahead!):

Right now all of the impact melt is coming from the body being hit. So they can lose rather large amounts of mass to fragmentation, depending on the impact velocity.

I'm working on having the mass come from both the impacting and impacted body instead. That should fix a lot of these odd cases with loss of mass. Until then, there's going to be some weirdness.

In regards to the bodies not registering a collision, Xriqxa, can you please post your logs? I'd like to see where the collision is failing if at all possible.
