Why actually do we have to wait 2 weeks for the codes? Not that I dont like it. But it just sound. unlogical.
They just could have sent the alpha 7 codes, and when alpha 8 is out update the steam thingy.

I've merged a lot of recent topics into this and changed the topic title because the board was being flooded with threads asking similar questions. Sorry about the delay... we'll be sending out the Steam codes for Universe Sandbox ² the the alpha testers that have been accepted in the next 72 hours.
We released Alpha 8 to our current batch of testers earlier this week. Once they've had a few days to test, and we've fixed some known bugs, we'll be sending out keys. Other then that, we don't have a specific time frame.

They don't need us to test alpha 7. Alpha 7's been in tester's hands for a while now already. So, while it'd be nice for us to get our grubby paws on it now (lord knows my reaction to the email was an immediate 'YAAAY!' followed by an 'oh, bugger.'), there's no point to it. We'd likely report bugs they've already fixed, further slowing the refinement of alpha 8.

Lets say. We have the alpha 7, we would have about 2 weeks to get used to it :D, right?

Those bugs will remain in alpha 8 if they don't know about them already, and the chances are the easy to find ones have already been ferreted out. That'd be part of why they want 50 more to begin with - more variety in systems, more variety in testing mechanisms, and more chance of software conflicts. By broadening the pool, the more obscure bugs become easier to surface, but nothing is gained by having us report 90% things that are already addressed in alpha 8.

Ok. As a game developer who was unlucky enough to miss the private alpha signups, I'm kinda ticked off that you guys were actually supposed to release this game in the year 2013 and we are more than halfway through 2014. When will this game be completed? or at least the public alpha?

Well a public alpha, using the current format, would mean whoever enters would get a steam key for the game.
Now, what do you think the problem would be if the game released and most people already had keys for it?
The Answer: Not many people would buy it, most of them would probably already own keys.

As a game developer, you presumably understand that delivery times are estimates only unless corporate is breathing down your neck. Might I ask which studio you're with, as a matter of personal curiosity?

GA relase paid (buggy) open Alpha; then update it. And they only release it on US2 website. Next to the "buy" button, GA would put a red message saying :" WARNING : This is a very buggy version, buy at your own risks !".
What do you think ? Players would be warned its not imperatively a great game for now but it will become one ! And this solution remove the waiting ! (And have you EVER found a game without bugs ?)

I think it's a good idea, everybody (who wants) report bugs, they will do it. But there are many SERIOUS bugs, and maybe even this will not run on your computer.

If half the game was bugs than it's not even a game anymore! If everyone was an Alpha Tester, GA would drown in bug reports! You say 8YO is offensive but you do not consider that this whole thread is an insult on GA's logic and planning! They know what they are doing, if you didn't get the Alpha there is no reason to start complaining and then tell GA to release it now. I'm sure you wouldn't have made this thread if you were an Alpha tester. This is what I mean by 8YO, they don't think about the logic of stuff and then demand something to be released immediately.
If you didn't know, US2 is an education program. If they released it now it would be saying that the universe works by being filled with bugs.

Okay okay (but having my dream (litteraly) ruined is not good (yes i dream (litteraly) of US2). But give me a clear example of a bug please. This is annoying to heard BUG BUG BUG but having NO clear example.
I also just hope GA wont push back US2 like they did in 2013. YES patience is a virtue. But everything has limits.

A popular bug is the gravity bug.
The gravity multiplier is set to zero, but there is an error when trying to open the menu to change that.
There are also some bugs with the supernovas, like spawning infinite chains of gaseous remnants, hence spamming the screen with entity labels.
Also, I think bong said some time ago that the mirrors on the Mirror Pyramid (!?😱😆) don't work, they're just blurry.
Also multiple bugs with the trails when zooming in on gas giants.
And even more bugs with seeing through planets.
Anyway, having your dream ruined is no reason to start whining about it.
I've been dissapoineted way too many times in my life, and I'm fine right now.
Plus, think about it, your better off than the Palestinians. Poor guys, I saw a video clip of half-dead babies vomiting their organs, and fathers having to witness the deaths of their own, extremely young children.
Before looking at what you don't have, try to look at what you DO have. A loving family, a home, a bed, water, food, an internet-connecting device, maybe a pet, etc. (at least I HOPE you have these things 😨)

You obviously have not been a game developer for very long then. As a limited number of employees working on a game is bound to have setbacks. And do not be so harsh! Dan and the team have made an amazing game! And it appears that you are just bashing the game and developers because you missed the alpha signup. And now you cannot play a game you've been waiting for. I felt the same way you did... back when I was 13 years old. Now much older, and having developed a game or two, I see that they are actually doing an outstanding job at creating this simulator.

I agree. Most of the new threads asking this sort of thing are being made by people who didn't gat into the Alpha team, and I am more than certain that they wouldn't have made this thread if they did.
Gammaray, I feel this is very impatient with you. I waited for more than three years for the release and I finally got to be an Alpha tester. If you were only waiting since 2013, you've obviously never made an extreme quality game.

A true game "developer" would've wait for a game that is currently on it's alpha stage considering how much effort and time they're putting into it.
So just wait and see the improvements.

Who says we can't still have fun with it? In between each bug report, you can play around with collisions. Besides, you find bugs by PLAYING it, doing every possible thing that can be done in the game (and also doing crazy stuff that would cause bugs)
And based on GA's history of delaying releases, don't get too excited because the steam codes could be released even more than a week later.

I never said that having fun wasn't allowed. I'm saying that it looks like he just wants to play the game just to play it early. And that isn't what Alpha testing is. I love playing it and breaking it. He shouldn't make it sound like all he wants to do is play it.

you know, there's a term for what you do: backseat modding.
it's usually used as an insult for people who think they should be running things but aren't. there are usually rules against it.

They want to wait until they release Alpha 8. Once they release Alpha 8 to us testers, we will check to see if it is stable and if it is, we will let the devs know. Once they are informed that the build is stable, they will send out steam codes to all the new alpha testers. Trust me, all of the testers from the first sign up had to wait also. It wasn't 2 weeks, but I recall the wait being about a week or so. Be patient and the 2 weeks will fly by fast. :)
EDIT: I was sent the code exactly 7 days after I was accepted into the Alpha.

Can't forget the graphical issue where planets and other bodies glow very bright when zoomed all the way out or all the way in. This kind of ties in with the trails bug with the gas giants.

The first Universe Sandbox had a tendency to crash when I got a little carried away with spawning hundreds of bodies. I guess we'll find out how much US2 can take. But I have a feeling that depends on how much you GPU can handle before the game crashes.
For example, someone with a less powerful graphics card might only be able to handle 200 bodies before crashing. Whereas, someone with a more powerful graphics card might be able to take 400 or 500 bodies before crashing. I guess that's why we're testing. :D

Exactly! I believe this is why there was a second sing-up. For more diversity in the testing. That or there weren't enough bug reports from our first group. Which makes this second group very important!

It's not actually racist, it'd be chauvinistic. Also, he's not saying it's better - he's saying they learn different elements at different times where he is compared to where you are.
Also, frankly, decimals are pretty basic stuff and shouldn't be what you're homing in on. Exponents are a better example, and an important one in astrophysics.

That's using Earth as a unit of mass. So it's actually 100 Earth Masses to 166 Earth masses. In other words it's bodies that are near the upper limits of being terrestrial, and getting into the Gas Giant range.

Must be hard to figure out what would happen if you had a pure silicate object with the mass of a gas giant or a star. In alpha 7, you can make a star that is pure silicate, but in reality it probably wouldn't go through nuclear fusion

As a (very young) Programmer (C#, Ruby, Java, VB.NET) this game - in fact - every game had a lot of time spent on it. Just because you missed the sign up, it doesn't give you the right to get pissed.
I had the same feeling missing the alpha sign up of Minecraft PE. But hey, I got over it.
If you are a real programmer, you should've understood and kept this to yourself.
Now, Now, let's not go off making assumptions. He's probably worked in a larger group on an easier-to-make game, making it have a fast release. Though, it would be nice to have some evidence. What game did you work on?

I'd say be patient. I don't think GA runs like that. Alpha 10 will just be another alpha. They don't run off of special number or increments. Sorry, you just need to be patient. Also, there will be no public alpha. There will be a public beta for everyone who pre-orders the game.

Please, you missed my point. I said that this group is too impatient because of two reasons. One all is see posted from them is "when is the key coming". Notice how I say "all I see from these testers..." That means only the impatient ones post about this. I rarely see you post so how am I supposed to know you were even a tester? And two I rarely see new alpha testers post be patient, that I've see once or twice. Please that fit that you just threw was inappropriate. You could have asked nicely to rephrase what I said.

I think that the "moderators" (developers) are fed up with all those questions. Mainly because they have answered it many times.

Yes Bla has control of threads, but he isn't a developer. Developers know everything. I know they do share some insight with Bla but not everything I believe.

Hi all I would like to know when I will get the code on steam as I alpha tester ;)
We released Alpha 8 to our current batch of testers earlier this week. Once they've had a few days to test, and we've fixed some known bugs, we'll be sending out keys. Other then that, we don't have a specific time frame.

I'm a tester from the new batch, and I'm calmed, I'd like to say to my fellow testing colleagues that do not rush, it'll be ready when it is ready, good things are worth the wait, complaining won't make it come faster... and stuff like these...
I say this because I think the new batch of testers are starting to give a bad image of themselves to all the people here, and some of us are not that "hasty"... there are a lot of things to do while the codes come to us ;)

Ok. As a game developer who was unlucky enough to miss the private alpha signups, I'm kinda ticked off that you guys were actually supposed to release this game in the year 2013 and we are more than halfway through 2014. When will this game be completed? or at least the public alpha?

i honestly have no problem with it. People should be able to have at least the smallest prejudice for new testers, since most of the new tester activity is going towards MIGHTY SPAM SANDWHICHES AWAY!

I'd say be patient. I don't think GA runs like that. Alpha 10 will just be another alpha. They don't run off of special number or increments. Sorry, you just need to be patient. Also, there will be no public alpha. There will be a public beta for everyone who pre-orders the game.

Third: if it acts a big bug enough for the team to delay the keys for 1 month.
