Title: Faster than light ?
Post by: Vince77 on August 01, 2014, 03:16:17 PM
Hello everyone !
I was thinking about something, can we one day go faster than light ?
Or what about go approximately at the speed of light ?
The fastest thing we know excluding light was a particle of photon travelling at a speed of about 0,999999C
So even if the speed of light is the limit, we can travel at almost the same speed, but what type of propulsion could we use for do that ? And since everything that as a mass can't go to the speed of light, what about negative mass ?

The photon, or historically as light, as is the energy of electromagnetic radiation is classified in the standard model of elementary particle as massless mediating the electromagnetic interaction. Having integer spin is a boson. So .. The light consists of electric and magnetic fields that propagate through space as waves. The photon is the particle that makes up the electromagnetic fields. The wavelength determines the color of visible light. From the point of view wave, a photon has a frequency of vibration and its wavelength. The product of the frequency f with the wavelength is equal to the speed of propagation of the wave, in this case of light. The photon is a massless particle  and, as it spontaneously decays, its half-life is infinite. The photon has two possible polarization states and is described by the wave vector, which determines the wavelength and its direction of propagation. The photon is the gauge boson for electromagnetism  and consequently the other quantum numbers such as baryon number lepton number and flavor are null and void. Photons are emitted in many natural processes, such as during the 'acceleration of a charged particle, the transition of an atom or molecule to a lower energy level or the annihilation of a particle with the respective antiparticle.
I hope you have understood.
Here's what those lessons are served in nuclear physics. :)

i know whats faster than light.

Darkness :P
Darkness is a lack/decrease of light..

I think no you can't go faster than light in a straight line however artificial wormholes could be made or if you believe in strings they could be used
