Hey there everyone, new user here. I just got US yesterday after playing around with it for the hour time limit, and I'm loving it.

I'm a little stuck, though, on how to make some more interesting systems. So far, all I've been able to do is set a star in the middle of a system and place objects at seemingly random distances, and then tell them to auto-orbit.

Is there any way to give an object a velocity in a direction that's not headed directly towards the largest mass in a system, as it would if it were just placed there?

Also, is there any way to make a system out of an accretion disk, as it might happen in reality? For example, I'd love to be able to simply put down a massive disk of dust and gas and watch as a system is formed. (I know that it wouldn't be too realistic, as this simulator doesn't take into account affects such as solar wind and such, but I'd like to try anyways.)

thanks very much!

I wish, but that's not a feature yet.  Cry Cry

Ah, that's too bad. The only way that I could think of making that work would be by populating the solar system with hundreds of thousands to millions (or more) billiard-ball sized particles, and then letting it run. Unfortunately, my computer slows down even with only about 100 objects constantly interacting (with a small amount of motion trail enabled, which is all but necessary), let alone thousands.

But back to the original topic: Are there any really cool tricks that people could share? Or perhaps is there a thread where people have stored their cool system ideas that can be downloaded and tinkered with?

Thanks!

You can download systems from other users in other topics.  Smiley

Dan is working on US2 and made Beta for only Beta Team Members only.
You can try mines:

Or there could be a button, it spawns dust, and then they pull some gravity, and when they get near enogh next thing you know you have an asteroid of like 3 km. or something, but there are no labels until an moon sized object forms, then those are labeld or something.

Welcome!
It looks like you are already an expert on astronamy and Universe Sandbox (i am only 10) you can only make a solar system from dust manually unfortunetly you have to set some things to dust then insert a star (optional planets) and wella!
you should try some experiments with Universe sandbox or just having fun. ex.throw bodies at eachother and watch the interaction.
have fun with Universe Sandbox!

Someday you will realize that there is nothing cool about becoming older. Undecided

Your life gets worse the older you are. You get a boring job, with other boring stuff. I want to be a kid forever!
