In the next release of universe sandbox, I believe that this photo should be used for the milky way, or something similar besides the rendition.

That is what scientists now think it looks like. Spiral barred galaxy.

Ohhh... beautiful! Red purple? Although, who knows what it looks like I noticed that, too. It should be edited, to look less active, since the red and purple indicates star formation. We should be more brownish and a bit red since thats the color you see when looking at the Milky Way.

That's a great image and I'd be happy to add it to the next version of Universe Sandbox.
Do you know what the actual name of this image is?
And in order to distribute it, I also need to know the source to make sure that there aren't any legal restrictions on this image.

The outer part correctly interprets the color since new stars are forming as the gasses condense.

I'm not sure of the name, but if you want to find it, type in milky way galaxy and search the pages, you should find it if you are using firefox.

That's a very beautiful picture. If this is what our galaxy looks like, I'm no longer embarrased of it being a barred spiral.

I'll only replace it as the default if I think it's better (and I may remove the red coloring). Either way the plan is to let you choose from all the available images when you create a customized galaxy. And yes... Welcome.

What is that galaxy behind the Milky Way improved? It looks like an elliptical galaxy..
I like inverted stuff, so I inverted the Milky Way (you can see structures)..

It's probably what they believe the hidden galaxy next to us looks like.
