In more than three billion years, that is.  Smiley Cause of the habitable zone will go to Mars.

If we didn't terraform it yet, the ice will melt on the surface and turn into water, making the land green.  Smiley

But I suspect that we will terraform it before Earth's ocean will evaporate.

You don't really know when evolution will happen. Evelution may possibly (may possibly is the keyword here) happen anytime. (Anytime being another keyword)

The melting ice will only create blue seas, nothing else.
We need life before we can live. Water is not equal to life. There could be two ways of getting life there:
Placing primitive one-celled organisms (if they can even be called cells) that probably started life on Earth, in fatty acids on Mars, if Mars has... I think volcanoes are needed, at least sea streams from warm to cold water.
Or placing many of the animals in our own eco-system. We may not need every single bacteria, but placing many of the big animals may also bring many of the bacteriae that life on them with them.
But then we also need to place many plants.
While this may not take billions of years to evolve, I think this is the best option. I see a problem with the gravity and the diffrent environment, it may be hard for Earth animals and take some time to evolve into it. Perhaps killing many of the animals we place?

In 5.4 billion years our Sun expands into a giant star. Mars will be unhabitable. and thus it may engulf.

We can terraform the Galilean moons and Titan before the Red Giant, too.  Wink

And we can go other solar system in 2051.

Dan can you make a branch from this, a topic called evolution. If the harsh environment of Mars kills some animals, It should speed up evolution.

I think human controlled environments are bad for evolution. Medicines saving lives, helping bacteria develop. If we don't die from diseases then our weak genes will be passed on. Though it does sound cruel to let people die. Then we can resort to altering DNA. I wonder if it's possible to alter the genes of a living being. Huh

Our live evolved, but on Mars we could probably send many of our own creatures onto it (after having  changed the atmosphere of course).
I think we could do it in... Less than 1,000 years. With our technology.

Ofc here are many species on Earth, but all of them aren't needed to make life on Mars.

That's what I think at least... Tongue

On the other side, changing the atmosphere will be harder I think. Or will it? Isn't it just to bring some gas from Earth? Then our own will also change into a thinner atmosphere. Hmm. Sad

Exactly, but what I mean is like we don't need all the different animals, we don't need all the different bacteria and simple organisms. Smiley
And we could eventually place them at the same time, the Earth has an advanced eco-system so not so many complex organisms will be able to survive without each other. The simple organisms might stay pretty much the same - making it unimportant if we place the creatures when they are placed or 100 years after. It's most important that everyone have something to eat when they are placed. Tongue

I'm just saying you can only start a food chain from the bottom. And btw we don't really need to change the temperature we drill under the ice caps and add fish and algae. Deep water cannot freeze because the pressure is too great. We already know animals that can survive tremendous pressures and others that can live in extreme habitats like gysers. And adding life on Mars would definitely speed up evolution.

Actually, scientist say that the habitable stretches from venus to mars, so it's on the very edge.
And I heard that they are trying to terraform mars around 2020?

Yes it does, but, that's the extrempohilic habitable zone. Only extremophiles (thermophiles) can live there.
