hi there! im in search of coordinates for the planet x (nibiru), the one that is supposed to pass close to earth at arround 2012 or something like that. and i found these coordinates, but i dont know how to read them, or how to convert them so that i can simulete it in universe sandbox. can anyone help me? (im not even shure if these coordinates can be used...) here they are: RA 4.45962 Dec 12.44113 Sep 20, 2001 RA 4.45732 Dec 11.91793 Sep 30, 2001 RA 4.45732 Dec 11.91793 Oct 12, 2001 RA 4.45727 Dec 11.92167 Oct 23, 2001 RA 4.45725 Dec 11.94356 Oct 31, 2001 RA 4.45724 Dec 11.98742 Nov 15, 2001 RA 4.45719 Dec 12.10971 Nov 27, 2001 RA 4.45699 Dec 12.22168 Dec 8, 2001 i only know that RA means Right Ascension and that Dec means Declination... can anyone with more knowledge help me... i would really like to simulate this... i also found some other websites with info: http://www.rumormillnews.com/cgi-bin/archive.cgi?read=7043

Universe Sandbox uses RA & Dec coordinates for the galaxy and star positions, but doesn't currently support reading this data in from system XML files (and Universe Sandbox doesn't consider if these are coordinates from the Earth (probably) or the Sun). It's a reasonable feature request. In order to convert RA & Dec to a 3D position you'd also need to know (or guess at) the distance of nibiru from the Earth (and you'd need the Earth position for each of these dates, which is obtainable). And just in case anyone is wondering... I feel quite confident in claiming that this planet does not exist. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypothetical_planetary_object_(non-scientific)#Planets_proposed_by_Zecharia_Sitchin

yeah, it probably doesnt... and i only decided to make it, just to improove my knowledge about how i can do this kind of stuff with the program. and also to see how it would be if it really existed. thnx for all the info Dan!

And whether or not it exists... It's a totally fun situation to try and create.
Sorry I don't have better support for these type of coordinates.

Hi ! I had some interest in study the myth of Nibiru so I use the Starry Night to create some possible orbital data to this planet: a: 235.5000000 e: 0.9800000 i: 30.0000000 Node: 120.5911330 Peri: 90.0000000 Mean: 66.9061279 Diameter: 427600 km Mass relative to: - Earth: 314.483728404982 - Sun: 9.44442489354537E-04 - Jupiter: 1 - Kg: 1.8786E+27 I made some simulations in another astronomical integrators and the result is that Nibiru is impossible in our solar system. If it existed the solar system would be completely different from today, some planets even existed because they would have been ejected or had colided with other planets. Another interesting point is that Nibiru, for having a highly unstable orbit because your high eccentricity, is invariably ejected of the solar system in just thousands of years due to gravitational interactions with Jupiter and Saturn. I tried to simulate the solar system with the presence of Nibiru in the Universe Sandbox but for some reason the planet always are following a escape path to out of the solar system in the beginning of simulation, even in small timesteps. Dan, it would be possible to check what's wrong in this code ( Nibiru is the last object in the code ) ? I would like to develop a simulation to help clarify people on the impossibility of this pseudocientífic myth that frightens so many. <?xml version="1.0" standalone="yes"?> <System> <Body> Alnitak,
Very cool and noble idea.
I tried out your system and it looks good to me. Try deleting all the inner planets (or using the system: Trans-Neptunian Objects - Top 20 non-moons) and running the system at a 200 day fixed time step. I've found that adjusting the time step can cause orbits to decay unnaturally.
Velocities will be a bit easier to visualize with the 'predictive path' feature that shows where the body is headed and how it will be affected by its parent (this feature will be in the next release).
How did you calculate the velocity that you're using?

No worries... Nirubu is fake.
There is no compelling evidence that Nirubu is real.
Serious amateur astronomers would already be able to detect changes in the orbits of other bodies in the solar system caused by anything big enough to dramatically effect the Earth's orbit in the next 3-4 years (in 2012).
The fact that no one has found inconsistencies with the current orbits of the planets & moons is strong evidence that Nirubu doesn't exist.

And here's the evidence for my claim: "... the minimum possible distances at which a Mars-mass, Earth-mass, Jupiter-mass and Sun-mass object can orbit around the Sun [and not yet be known to humanity] are 62 AU, 430 AU, 886 AU and 8995 AU respectively. To put this into perspective, Pluto orbits the Sun at an average distance of 39 AU." http://www.universetoday.com/2009/04/15/constraining-the-orbits-of-planet-x-and-nemesis/

And in 2012. Meteor Impacts, Megatsunamis, Pandemic, Blackouts and Planet Collisions and some more that will occur.

Doesn't mean they are true. Don't believe it. Someone can say something. Doesn't mean it's real. I have a banana in my closet? How can you check? So, see? That proves it.

SuperNova. All of the claims about the end of the world in 2012 are false. There's nothing to worry about.

Also, one of the first rules of quantum physics states that you cannot prove something exists unless you are seeing it right at this moment.

It's kind of interesting how they created their name in order to create associations in your mind with the "LHC". The fun thing about physical endtime conspiracy theories is actually that they mostly forget, that most of these so called endtime events already happened several times before in the past. And we are still alive. It more or less seems to be a common syndrome of humanity always to think that the endtime is coming. This kind of syndrome has helped making various religious concepts popular and I would say it even influences the decisions made by the parties who are involved into today's conflicts of the Middle East.

Though there is a movie coming out about it.
This movie, 2012, is from the director of Independence day and Godzilla. It's another one of his scifi disaster films and has nothing to do with reality. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_%28film%29I'm expecting it to be a cool disaster movie.

no end of the world?! awsome! well, comets and Megatsunami's don't appear from the nothing and Planet X/nibiru/nemenis don't are real....so this one is added to the other 65 ends of the world's that aren't real and the day they would happen, was just a normal day but i wan't to talk about 2012 (the movie). i checked the trailer, its awsome!

Planet X is a planet beyond neptune. often confused as Nibiru. That is hypothetical.

It's sort of funny the president in the movie is African American (imitating Barrack Obama ). They just can't get over the fact a black person is president. (if i could i would have voted for Obama). And plus he will still be president in 2012.
