I'm thinking of doing a system for the first time and I was planning that in the instant an asteroid passed a planet the asteroid changes it's course which will make it go to an other direction than it should have done by just passing it normally. Can you do such things and if you can how?

Are you wanting to trigger an event when the asteroid passed the planet?
Currently there's no way to trigger events in Universe Sandbox.

If you open up the system "Apophis passes near the Earth in 2029" you can see how the Earth alters the course of an asteroid.

What kind of event are you wanting to trigger? Help me understand what you'd like to do.

The Apophis has a chance of hitting a satellite when it passes Earth which will make it turn back and hit us in 2036. Was hoping in doing something like that Smiley

"However, a possibility remained that during the 2029 close encounter with Earth, Apophis would pass through a gravitational keyhole, a precise region in space no more than about 600 meters across, that would set up a future impact on April 13, 2036."

Hitting a satellite wouldn't make any difference and wouldn't cause it to turn around.

No worries. I'm glad I could help.

Here's an interesting article about Apophis from 2005:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2005/dec/07/spaceexploration.research

And information about Apophis from NASA:
http://neo.jpl.nasa.gov/apophis/

Either way...
Events are still a very interesting idea.

Why is the 'History' Channel predicting the future?   Wink Just ironic in my opinion.

I've heard a lot about it not hitting Earth, and something about a German child calculating it to hit contrary to NASA's calculations. Personally, I like NASA's outcome more.

If a cosmic collision destroys America, I doubt it wouldn't destroy everything else too.

YOu could make it right by the planet, tinker with it, then click reverse all velocities (make sure it isn't captured in the planets gravity). then reverse velocities again. Save it. PLay it. It should work.
