http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/atomic7732/1137621 (4x4 grid) NEW!!! http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/atomic7732/1139934 (96 Locations!!!) Post your hurricane records! 4x4 grid records 1. 114 kts (Cat 3) 2. 106 kts (Cat 3) 3. 103 kts (Cat 3) 96 location records 1. 140 kts (Cat 5) - Tie! Darvince/atomic7732 2. 130 kts (Cat 4) This storm started out as a weak depression moving east. It became a tropical storm as it began it;s trek north. The next iteration brought it to a category 1 hurricane. It slowly strengthened up to a category 3 only on row 6. Near that point it began weakening slightly, only to regain strength more north. It reached 130 just at landfall being only 129 on the previous advisory. 3. 120 kts (Cat 3) History: 117 kts moving north, curved to the north west and weakened to 111 kts, then just before landfall (NW conrner) strengthened to 116, and 120 at landfall. 4. 110 (Cat 3) 5. 108 kts (Cat 3) 6. 104 kts (Cat 3) 7. 103 kts (Cat 3) 8. 102 kts (Cat 3) Version Historyv1.0 - Initial Release v1.0.1 - Fixed a wind glitchv1.0.2 - Mainly fixed itv1.0.3 - Fixed for surev1.0.4 - VERY SURELY FIXED!!!! ARGH YOU BUGS!!!! (both kinds)v1.0.5 - It better be fixed now...v1.0.6 - I'm getting mad now...v1.0.7 - No tolerance policy for wind bugs!v1.0.8 - fixed a location bug, and re added the green flag scriptsv1.0.9 - fixed green flag dissipated script.v1.0.10 - trying to elimitade starting wind amount errors.v1.0.11 - fixed another location glitch!v1.0.12 - polishing the disspiated featurev1.0.13 - fixed an error in scriptv1.0.14 - added a simple little scriptv1.1.0 - added "cyclone alert"s. The dots turn orange when the cyclone is within 2 dot moves of it. PLEASE REPORT BUGS, IT WASN'T TESTED!v1.1.1 - turned off the orange pixels at start.v1.1.2 - made the cyclone smaller for realisticness. v1.1.3 - Fixes an alert bug, and hopefully fixes the wind bug caused by delayed timing of delayed timing.v1.1.4 - Last version made it too fast. Fixed it, but the way I fixed it was place a nother timer (.9 secs) after the alert and temp calcs. It's a bug spray.v1.1.5 - Changed 2 locations, and changed the probablilties around. v1.2.0 - Two hurricanes, changed alert points to lines.v1.2.1 - same as 1.1.5 but with the alert points as lines.v1.2.2 - FINALLY fixed the location glitch for point 69.v1.2.3 - added naming functionv1.2.4 - fixed something I didn't account for.v1.2.5 - added 7 points that push it a random direction everyonce in a while.v1.2.6 - Little Atlantic teaser... 73 I think. But well made. I like how all the colors are simple, only 3 used colors, instead of a real picture of a hurricane etc. that doesn't fit with the background.

Here is what I have noticed as normal, so if you see any oddities other than these... please tell me.
Note: Track is the "Great Storm (130 kts)", which was an oddity. (kind of)

Lots of programming/not much people that likes meteorology, idk. I think Dan would do it if he wanted to.

The problem is if it simulated an IR image. It would need to take into account LOTS of stuff we haven't perfected yet...
Mine just takes into account water temp and direction.

Idk if this is also posted elsewhere, it seems like it is, but v1.4.1 has been out for a while. It's got options and more customization than ever before!
Planned ideas - Priority (0 is low, infinity is most)
- Shear 5 - Naming threshold 7 - Damage/deaths, issue warnings to prevent 4 - NHC mode (kind of the above two, be the agency) 3 - Nature mode (more customization of the storm itself, be Mother Nature) 3 - Season selection 6 - Automatic time 3 - Multiple cyclones 4 - Arc Gulf simulation 2
Vote for ideas to give them more points, meaning more priority. (Vote for up to 3)

You sir just won a free idea. What is your idea?
Anyway, no I think it's possible to get stronger... But that's my record, so... lol
I could calculate what the strongest possible is later.

Make it so the further north a storm is the less of a chance it can get to strengthen

I tried, it seems the stronger it is the more it likes to strengthen where it shouldn't... lol
Remind me if this feature isn't done by the 4th of July. It'll be v1.4.2

Updated. Test pl0x?
It appears to weaken nicely... I might expand the area a bit north and west. I'll be working on the simulator a bit more int he next few days and add some features.

More or less. Yeah.
Any votes up or down on the features explained above?
I'm working on the hurricane center mode

Updated, and I kind of borked the wind... The max I got out of about 40 storms was 101 kts, with a pressure of 977 mb.
I estimated the maximum a storm could be is around 185 kts, if it only lasted for 4 iterations and it went directly west the whole time.

Download Scratch. Pretty much just mess around and see what the scripts do. Read some tutorials on the ScratchWiki.

C wouldn't do a thing. This needs to be graphic, not a command prompt. Also don't complain about what I use to code, you do it first. Then maybe I will.

hi i'll try this out cool, but all my hurricanes are category zero anyway, if you press the go button fast enough, it glitches out ok why are my hurricanes going backwards you see your chart of hurricanes and depressions and storms? well on my chart, everything is a tropical fail! i fail at hurricanes on this! arrrgggg! do you just keep on jamming the go button until you magically get a category 5?

You hit Go! once, let the storm run until it goes back to it's original spot, and then you can hit it again. Also maybe post a screen, I don't exactly understand what you mean.

I stole the slider.
(Btw, what are the orange lines on the map near the coast?)

lol the slider doesn't do anything yet, so you didn't break anything.
The orange/yellow (depending on intensity) are warnings. If the cyclone is > 55 kts it issues "hurricane" warnings, and if it's < 55 kts it issues "tropical storm" warnings.
